Bet365 Gold Cup (the Whitbread to old fannies like me)

Really pleased for Shark especially as he’s been bringing the horse over here for the staying chases. And still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for helping Rachael at the start of her career.

Cracking winner there, Outs.

33/1.

You're a clever boy, you, but then I'm well used to your tipping over the years.

Good on you, mate.

Many thanks.i just cant believe how easy he won.where does he go from here?going to be rated nearly 160.and that was only its 7th chase and only 7.

He'll be hard to place. Can anyone think of a really progressive horse that has won this recently? Tends to be the pinnacle.

As Outsider says, though, the horse is very lightly raced and you'd think there's improvement to come.

Graded staying chases must be the call, I suppose. Would want top of the ground, mind.

Been coming on here since 2011 and I never knew members had blogs...just found your's..interesting.

Gotta get me one of them:)

I think it's a good place to share ideas, trains of thought about the racing game. Me and Outsider regularly exchange thoughts; it's fascinating.

I just can't see it.

I'm with Slim on this..I seriously dowbt if the winner will win a gain foir avery long time if ever.
The same applies to the Aintree Grand National winner who is one hit wonder if ever I saw one.

BTW Well done Outsider.......be interesting to know if you are ahead for the season?
you back so many loud ones that finish nearer last than first then Boom! a Hewick turns up.
Does it pay in the long run?

I must admit the ease of victory took me by surprise too.

Take him out and we'd all be happy with the form of the next ones home in what was a competitive race. The runner-up was already 7lbs well in and Kitty's Light had been prepping all season for it. Win My Wings was still fighting for a place when coming down two out and, given how strongly she stays, she could well have been in the first four.

His future lies in the hands of the handicapper.

I think he'll go up at least 8lbs to take him to 157. He'd need to improve another stone at least to be a Gold Cup horse but it wouldn't be impossible. My guess is that they'll try and get him into the National off about 150 so it will be interesting to see how they campaign him in the early part of the season.

No Irish horse is getting 7lbs off for Aintree.

Just watched a replay of the 1984 race.still one of my favourite finishes.still cant believe how Special cargo won that.

One for the oldies (so might be a bit before your time Outsider). Does anyone know if a horse called Simian (lovely black horse) fell at the last in a Whitbread? One of my earlier memories, I seem to remember that it fell at the last in more than one big race.
