Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle

Although the current OR (if published) give me a fair idea what the weights will be, I usually like to get confirmation of them the next day getting stuck into a race.

I think Samarrive last ran over hurdles off 143 and has since been dropped to 141, but don't hold me to it and we will find out later today.

One of the big interests for me here is around one no longer in the field...

Minella Missile

Was entered in this and in the Pertemps qualifier at Haydock. No surprise he doesn't go in either after a PU in the big race at Newbury only a handful of days ago. Had no chance there - ground too loose?, mid-winter run (he's a sunshiney type, apparently), distance highly questionable. I had to do a double-take when he was down to run and was an easy one to strike off the list, albeit interesting to see whether he could put any sort of run in.

So that run was probably just a cobweb blower (and companionship for Libberty on the way across from Wales) to keep him ticking ready for Cheltenham or Aintree. Libberty put in a great run and wasn't too far away from pulling the plan off.

These 2 entries were encouraging (for me) in suggesting that nothing actually went amiss with MM at Newbury, though my guess would be they weren't exactly expecting a PU, more like a 'respectable' finish some 20-30 odd lengths at least behind the winner (the 2 miles always looked too sharp, but - theoretically - class and stamina in a fast run race might have seen him running past legless opponents after the last two).

There can't be too many Pertemps qualifiers left to go. Maybe none after this weekend? Probably ruled out of that now. Which leaves the Stayers or the Coral Cup in March. And we have no idea where the weather will go from here. It could be Aintree before he's a (sensible) betting proposition.

Evan Williams will always have had the spring races as a target.

Is a winner at Cheltenham more important to the Skeltons or another winner for Harry in the jockeys Cup?
Joyeaux Machin doesn't need a penalty for Cheltenham, I don't think.

You're very welcome, guys.

For now it's temporary and inspired by Ian's prolific posting on the weekend races and getting discussions back to the racing.

When I've done this kind of thing in the past it's been met with sniping from some quarters and it made me just wonder why the fvck should I bother.

We'll see how this goes but for now I'm happy to share. The only worry about putting my head above the parapet is that if I end up on binger after binger it makes me look like the fool some on here think I am.

I was so pleased to see Lump Sum finish second in the Betfair Hurdle last week after Tanlic had a dig at you about you selecting it, which is why I was the first to say well done to you.

As I say, I hope Barj was just joking about there. I haven't even posted on this thread until Barj mentioned me as I've been reading with interest.

The more I read from you, Maurice, the more I smile because of the excellent values you espouse.

No one is obliged to share the fruits of their work or to justify their methods - you do everyone a favour by sharing and you're a lot more generous than me about that, frankly.

If they don't like your modus operandi they can always politely and silently ignore its findings - I do that - a LOT 😂 - with various people, but not you.

I really like your insights and if I can give anything back to you in terms of pointing you in the direction of things like decs trackers etc I will gladly do so.

Cheers, Marb.

Actually I think it was King William Rufus he was referring to but it ran its little socks off too, still in the lead two out. I was thinking of Tanlic at the point as I still harboured hopes that it might stay on. Alas, it couldn't keep going and eventually came sixth. Needless to say I only had it to five places.

My disappointment was soothed by also having the first and second, though, with Navajo Indy in third also ticking one off for my short list for the race.

Aye, just a jest, marb - perhaps not the finest one in the world.

Minella Missile has an entry in the Pertemps Hurdle qualifier at Chepstow on Saturday 22 February. It could be a more competitive race than many of the other British qualifiers.
