Always thought the song had potential if it was lucky enough to be covered by someone who could actually, you know, sing a bit.

Snow Patrol are what Oasis would be without the Gallagher Bros. Indie by the numbers.

I downloaded the new Guns N` Roses album before coming to work and look forward to giving it a spin (so to speak) when I leave shortly.

Any thread of this nature would not be complete without the words Hendrix and Watchtower.

As you were :)

Radiohead - Creep
Mark Owen - Creep

can't be bothered looking for the versions on utube.

I think the Boy Bander brought a little something to the party Yorke and pals missed on hte original. VERY underrated member of the mighty Take That.

Johnny Cash - Hurt
NIN - Hurt

Johnny Cash - Personal Jesus
Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

Now don't get me wrong - the original Man In Black was a class act in his heyday, most especially with the Sun Sessions. But what was he thinking desecrating these fine tunes? I guess Reznor and the Basildon Crew felt sorry for the terminally ill legend, but even that was no excuse imo.

You're so far off beam it's frightening Numbersix. Cash kicks Nine Inch Nails into a cocked hat. Enough to make a man cry. Lots.

Cash's voice had totally gone by then, and the musical accompaniment was laughable. Trent Reznor is a musical genius. Period.

Not a fan of Depeche Mode, but that song does have a rather nifty bass line as I recall.

Get the LP its on Simmo, "Violator". Stand out tracks "Clean", "Blue Dress" and "Halo". One of the most personal and moving albums since Chris Martin and his Coldplay crew came along and transformed the musical landscape with the introverted, dark, moving and brooding works.

Sweet Dreams (Are made of this) ~ Marilyn Manson
Sweet Dreams (Are made of this) ~ Eurythmics

Oh no Numbersix, I can't agree. I'd far rather bang one out to this!! The pig does it for me every time.

I wonder if Annie Lennox ever met Depeche Mode, and if she did what would they talk about !

Always on my mind Pet shop boys

The original is wonderful of course but their cover is exhilarating. When in first heard it i was like Whoa!, simply laughed at the cheek of it and yet couldnt get that soaring sound and deadpan vocals out of my mind...

not too many artists outside of the soul/jazz spectrum i like, but PSB were for me the best straightforward pop act since the beatles. Great sardonic humour, incessant hooks and a wonderful uplifting sound

Johnny Cash doing It Aint Me Babe is surely the most embarrassing thing he ever did.

This is some achievement since most covers of Dylan songs are an improvement, or at least an alternative take, on the original.

Conversely what are the nominations for worst cover version?

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YHqB3v5rNCc Rod Stewart completely fucks up a classic.

All about opinions, isn't it? In my opinion, only Lloyd Honeyghan could possibly have delivered a worse rendition of that great song than Tom Waits did; Rod Stewart is one of the most execrable songwriters of all time but a genuinely wonderful vocalist and his delivery of said song is excellent.

Didnt he write Georgie though? Thats a wonderful track

I actually prefered his Rather Go Blind to Etta James. Hes probably covered soul/blues classics better than any mainstream artist i can think of. Reason to believe is anotehr example
