Bovine TB In Pigs

Don't bother trying to talk WITH HT, Julie - he'll only talk AT you, and quite honestly has wished all of us meat-eaters a long, painful death for moral reasons, anyway!

HT, I've been interested in nutrition and health-through-food for about 30 years and have read a whole slew of books on what is supposed to be best for various metabolic rates, body fat, muscle mass and height ratios, what cures diseases (read Hulda Clarke and the promises of her parasite zapper), what 'good' foods aren't really good for you (acid-promoting ones like tomatoes and oranges) and what other 'good' foods which are as high in fats and sugars as 'unhealthy' foods. There are lo-carb, hi-carb, lo-protein, high-protein, food combining, food separating, lo-fat, hi-fat, lo-sugar, no-sugar, all veg, some veg, vegan, fruitarian, anti-acid producing diets, metabolic rate speed-up diets, slow-release sugar diets... and that's just for a start.

There is so much more to just eating this or that to maintain health: if exercise isn't taken, if cigarettes are smoked, if alcohol is used regularly, if the home isn't well-ventilated, if negative feelings/attitudes aren't dealt with and disposed of, if radon is seeping into the house, if allergens are present, if there are anxieties and unhappiness over finances, relationships, jobs, etc., all of which sap the immune system's ability to fight off illness and disease.

You can eat all the sirloins in the world and not be happy within yourself and an emotional drain on others, equally you can take the moral high ground with vegetarianism and still be a controlling, domineering bigot.

There's enough extremism being demonstrated right here, right now, without you adding your specific death wishes for all of us who are omnivores, thank you.

Why is it this subject seems to bring out the worst in you Kri. If you read back I recommended googling the CRON diet - not a vegitarian diet but probably the one diet that has any scientific backing as far as life extension goes - and because I reply to some flippant remarks made by people who obviously didn't take the trouble to look at it in any depth I'm accused of "talking at" people.

When I said "a disease in the meat chain will someday kill you all" it was said in part jest. I say part because the way profit is put before people these days nothing would surprise me. And I'm certainly not "adding specific death wishes on all omnivores" as that would wipe out the majority of my loved ones.

It seems every time I'm in disagreement with Julie you jump in with your zapper to hander her out. Leaving aside the fact that Julie can look after herself, I don't really see that there's ever been any real anymosity between me and her so I don't know why you feel the need. Dom's even more my polar opposite as far as animal matters are concerned, yet her and I seem to co-exist peacefully on here. You're the only one that seems to have a bee in her bonnet about my vegitarian views. Why?

If I agree with someone, I'm not giving them 'a hander' (whatever that is) - curiously, I'm just agreeing with their viewpoint, HT. Julie can take care of herself? - you bet she can - but I think I'm allowed to say I don't see why you have to wish her (or anyone else) onto her death bed to make your point. (You've subsequently said that was intended in a jokey way, but it doesn't look like that to me.) If being a veggie is important to you, that's fine - but I don't see omnies constantly picking at you for that, while no mention of meat can pass on here without you making a crack about us going to Hell, dying of meat-related diseases, over and over again.

And, you know what, I am actually ALLOWED to have a voice - when I mentioned 'controlling, domineering bigots' I didn't have you in mind, it was just a term of phrase to imply that neither omnies or veggies necessarily turn into better people JUST BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY EAT. However, if you are trying to control what I can say, maybe the cap fits.

I get on well with Julie not just on this forum but on a personal level, so I'd have thought it blindingly obvious that I will frequently support her, since we do share many views. I've managed to have some forum disagreements with SL, but on a personal level, I think we get on very well, too. If you think I'm going to preclude supporting anyone on here, when I agree with them, just because you don't like it, you're well misguided.

So stick that in your carrot-&-coriander soup!

I don't even know what coriander is Kri. Like I said, nobody else seems to have a problem with my veggie banter. I don't really expect there to be mass faintings because I've added the words "Youre all doomed. Doomed I tell ye." to a meat thread and I don't understand why such quips are deemed worthy of one of your pro-abattoir diatribes. Why can't you just shuffle the furniture about like most women.

"Pro-abbatoir diatribes"? You have me confused with someone else, but that's what happens when your brain gets starved of protein...

... that's enough prattle. I've got the laundry to finish, the bed linen to change, some light dusting, file a few papers, have a little brekkie, wash up some dishes, check on the old girl, a quick bit of shopping, shine my shoes, and get ready for an hour's drive for an evening's work. You just lie back and enjoy an afternoon's monetary exploitation of innocent animals, sweetie...

Is the furniture screwed down like.

Jeez, I only moved it around last night, man! Is it okay if I come out of the kitchen now, and put my shoes on so I can go shoppies?

 Okay, you select if I wear the Doris Day pink-&-white gingham, or the other one with the pretty lacy collar, Big Daddy.

Talking of vegans, I had the delight of seeing my cousin & his boyfriend again at the weekend - I have never in my life seen such a pair of sickly, pale, scrawny, ill-looking people!!

Seriously though, my A-level Biology teacher was vegetarian, as was her household - one son & her husband were vegan, and she used to drum into us that a vegetarian diet (let alone a vegan one!) could not possibly provide the human body with all the nutrients that are essential for growth & development, and for being healthy. She said this as a vegetarian & also added that even supplements were not the same - we need animal proteins to grow & develop properly.
