Brigadier Gerard Stakes

its not my ideal sort of price Steve but the conditions are so suitable for the best horse in the race

Yes, well done. The first two pulled well clear of the others, but Poet kept him up to his work. Given the circumstances, I was happier to watch him win than chase the even money.

I would take Workforce everytime - He has done it - his Arc win especially stands out. So You Think still has it to prove for me - what weight would Workforce get in a Melbourne Cup??

Exactly. People on here, and the racing media in general, would want to take a step back regarding So You Think. There is simply no way he should be favourite over Workforce. It is a rick, and will correct itself.

Giving 7lb to the field too and Poet is a very good horse on soft ground especially when given that sort of start - as the rest of the field soon found out .

difficult race to rate but a high figure and he is very likley to be a better horse than he was last year.
128+ is my provisional one.

For me it was a very pleasing reappearance. He is lightly raced in comparison to many his age too. Poet was very enterprisingly ridden but the way Workforce got to him and passed him was very taking. He looked fitter than I imagined he would but I think Stoute was erring on the side of caution. He, like so many trainers in Newmarket have been struggling to get their horses fit first time out since the grass has been too firm to work on and you only have the all-weathers or the watered gallop which aren't quite the same.

Timeform has Workforce running to 129 (Poet 120) at Sandown last night and leave last year's Derby/Arc winner on 133. Timefigure was 122.

Poet is very likeable, isn't he? If you exclude his two runs in Dubai, he has beeen placed 15 times out of 20.

Pivotal seems to get a lot of tough consistent horses like Poet, but not many extravegantly gifted horses like Montjeu gets. They're priced around the same level, but very different sires.

I really hope we see Workforce against So You Think against Frankel in August. That would be the race of the decade; imagine if they remained unbeaten until then.

The way I see it, the only horse you can rate it through would be the runner up.

So low to mid 120s. I'll go for 124 at a guess.

Poet clearly ran to a career best, and must have hit 117 at the very least. That would have to put Workforce on at least 125, maybe higher.

I like him a lot. It was a very game performance seizing the initiative and (Workforce aside) taking a field apart that are virtually identically rated. Unless all of those behind ran particularly badly Poet must have run to a personal best.
