Maybe the only answer is for a group of big strong teachers (you got any of those?) to surround a few of these offenders when no-one else is around, beat the shite out of them and employ the same tactics - ie, wasn't us, we weren't there etc etc.

Or, even better, pay some dodgy sorts to 'lean' on the parents of these kids, threatening God knows what.... ?

Ok, so I've been watching too many episodes of The Sopranos but sometimes fighting fire with fire is the only way... B)
 
I am afraid Maurice is right - Paul's headteacher is very weak on discipline by the sounds of it .
 
Very true. Jools, all joking aside there is a real feeling of "give me 5 minutes in a room with them" running amongst quite a few staff at the moment. Picking on a woman for crying out loud. Pathetic.
 
In my wife's school the police stand back in amazement at how the senior management team - mainly women - can turn would-be hard men into singing canaries within a few minutes of interrogation

its hard to sit back and watch these things goin on.
nowadays its too easy to cry wolf for students.
And ladies, excuse me when i say this, but it is especially difficult for men. All it takes is one student to shout assault, be it physical or sexual, and a whole world of shit will come down around the teacher. that is an enormous burden on any teacher. to be accussed of such a thing is as low as it goes, and it only takes a threat of this to put a teacher on the backfoot.

i come from rural ireland, not the sticks completely, a large town, where people would know whos who, roughly 10,000. it only takes one student to take a spite against a teacher to ruin them and their families.

this is one reason why i reconsidered teaching. i have several friends teachers, and they have told me that they feel powerless.

of the older generation of teachers, one man who retired recently said to me, that it had got to the stage where he was afraid to take a few of the lads to a GAA match, or to an exhibition, something he would have thought about a few years ago.

Its a difficult time we live in, and i dont know where we are goin.

im a young person, i enjoy a drink and a gamble and (my one weakness!!!)women!!! but the young people now, as in 14-18 are crazy. im in my early twentys. i coach my local team at under 18 level. would know a few of the older lads as friends, but the 14 and 5 yr olds shocked me in the last two months at training on sunday mornings. They have been attending non alcoholic discos on friday nights in town, started this summer.What i have found out from them, overhearing at training and talking to them, and what i thought was lies, but was then confirmed from friends who were doing bouncer, or security at the discos shocked me!!

They were all sexually active, and were openly having sex in the niteclub.
They fought with each other in arranged fights.
the last disco was abandoned because of mass brawls.
the fights the last night included stabbing each other with syringes full of rat poison.(confirmed by a local health worker)
what the f*ck?

The disco has been discontinued thank go, but what chance has our schools got.

Best course of action would be for all the teaching staff to partake in a american marines training course, then if it all kicks off you can do a michelle pfeiffer on them, like in the film dangerous minds. ;)
