Britpop

Not a big fan of Brit Pop to be honest. But i do like the bluetones. Soloman bites the worm and slight return. Shed 7, chasing rainbows.and I also had an awful lot of time for Kula Shaker, dont think they are v Brit Pop though. I like one or two of the stereophonics stuff as well, their last 2 single has been pretty good. 2 consecutive good singles from them is a rarity..

I think only Blur's first couple of albums can be classed as Britpop. They moved in a completely different direction. While Oasis have ripped off more 60's stuff then most (which Noel freely admits too) they still produced outstanding pieces like The Masterplan.

Anyone think there latest single "The Importance of being idle" sounds similar to The Kinks?

Oh, I did love Britpop ............. and I was 40 at the time! I think it was because it brought back to mind the great music of the Kinks et al.

Any band (Blur) that has the nonchalance to rhyme Prozac and Balzac in a song couplet (Country House), or features greyhound racing on an album (Parklife) gets my vote any time.

Most memorable song tho' for me from the Britpop era is Pulp's COMMON PEOPLE. Even today, it still today has that power to stop me dead in my tracks.

Nonchalance? What about the Stone Roses actually using the phrase "easy peasy." Magic!!

I wasn't into Britpop - I've always been more into Indie. At the time Blur & Oasis were slugging it out I was more interested in The Levellers & Shed 7! I never could understand the obsession with Oasis or Blur - ok, Oasis have done some good stuff, but not that good; and Blur's only decent moment was Parklife. I did like Suede & Ocean Colour Scene though. As for Pulp - some of their songs were ok, but nothing special & Jarvis Cocker is a knob. Were the Bluetones really Britpop? I tend to think of them as more indie, especially in recent years as they are still pretty big but don't do chart stuff.

Nonchalance = writing one of the best songs of all time using only 18 different words.

I don’t have to sell my soul

The stone roses were a musical generation before Britpop. In the same generation as inspiral carpets, happy mondays, etc. The Stone Roses may be slightly overrated in that their place in the pantheon of musical acts is based on one album and a series of singles. THe Second Coming was below par, and does one great album make a great band.

But I dont think that I have heard a better album than their debut. From start to finish each song is outstanding pop. Sugar Spun Sister, This is the One etc. Glad to hear Gene get a mention. I thought Olympian was a brilliant album.

aaah the memories.

Gene
Super Furry Animals
Supergrass
some more obscure bands like Belly, Marion (I think I am the only person in the World who remembers them) and Linoleum (I know I am the only person in The World who remembers them).

Happy days.

I loved Belly. I fancied Tanya Donnelly like mad!! Super Connected is probably their biggest song. They don't qualify though as they are American.

No, you're not the only one, there are at least two of us who've heard of them

i was well into my indie scene, still am although the music scene nowadays consists of hip hop and other dross.

my youth consisted of:

The Charlatans
Ocean Colour Scene
Paul Weller
Ride
Cast
Supergrass
Oasis
and the 60's stuff, nothing like a bit of Small Faces!

i still go to see soem of the bands whenever i can, i have to say that Ocen Colour Scene are probably the best live band ive seen.
