Am I right in thinking broken toes are left to heal by themselves without any treatment?

I managed to trip up while going out the back door last night & landed in a heap  my little toe & the one next to it have turned a rather ugly looking purple & hurt like buggery :ninja: I really don't want to spend several hours at A&E for no reason:whistle:

If they have gone purple, one thing that can be safely ruled out is Toe Reds Syndrome.

I'll get me coat..........

I think it depends on on the break, aldaniti.

I broke a toe, went to the doc and he told me it would heal by itself, which it did. A mate did likewise and ended up with his foot in special dressing. Best just have a specialist look at it.

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Toe Red's.

Aldaniti, if your condition causes you to thrust out your bosom and throw back your head after the manner of the woman in this painting you might well be a fellow victim. In any case there are plenty of doctors who would be well pleased to see you.

Get it checked, just in case. It depends very much on where the break is and whether it is likely to move and cause further problems.

Just waiting for other half to come in from work & we are off to A&E, pain hasn't gone away despite taking painkillers,

Could really do without it today as we are supposed to be taking the cat back to the vets tonight to be put to sleep, she has spent the weekend at home having lots of fuss & cuddles, she seems quite happy asleep in the sun at the bottom of my bed so I will put the inevitable off until tomorrow.

What a dreadful day you're having, Helen! Hope the foot's all right. You could do without all that on top of having such a poorly cat.

Best wishes all round.

Aldaniti, do you have a NHS Walk In centre near you could go to rather than the A & E? They would tell you whether it was broken/needed x rays and if anything like our local one, you will be in and out in ten minutes.

I'd agree that it needs looking at just to be on the safe side.

Poor you and poor cat :( Hope things get better soon

No drop in centre here as the hospital is only a 10 min trip up the road,

Must have been the quickest A&E trip in history, 1 hour 15mins!!!!

Fractured my little toe at the base & the toe next to it has three fractures, doc said as long as I am careful there will be no need for any treatment, need to go back to fracture clinic in two weeks to check on progress with another xray,

Meggie the cat has had a really good innings considering, she is 14yrs old & went into renal faliure last may & the vet gave her lest than a month to live, so to live for another 13 & 1/2 months it pretty amazing, she crashed again last week & she spent all week in the vets on IV fluids but hasn't recovered so we know thats it now sadly
