Mrs O has dropped a less than subtle hint that she wants new supplies of Chanel No 5 for Christmas.

The last time (two or three years ago) I bought them for her, I got them from 'The Perfume Shop', which was by some way the cheapest at the time. However, the website doesn't feature Chanel at all so presumably Chanel have pulled the plug on them.

Price comparison sites aren't helping and I'm unsure about the proliferation of fake good on the Internet so was wondering if any astute shoppers out there knew where best to source the stuff.

A colleague is going to Ireland by ferry this weekend and has offered to get the stuff duty-free for me but I wondered if it can be bought for less elsewhere as I've never been convinced by duty-free shopping.

Any ideas anyone?

DO, Chanel is well known for its price fixing as well as most other department store cosmetic counters, you will find it at pretty much the same price everywhere,

The duty free way its probably your best bet

Cheers, Aldaniti.

My colleague has said she'll text me on the boat going over to give me a couple of days to decide if I want her to get it for me.

Unless you go outside the country then Superdrug are about the cheepest, unless you want fake, but I take it you want the real thing, there was some in an auction and I WOULD THINK THAT THERE MAY WELL BE SOME WATER DAMAGED GOODS COMMING UP SOON,

Jeez H. C... you're buying this for your wife! You're only going to save a maximum of a £10 at best - is she really not worth making sure it's kosher product if that's the perfume she really prefers?

While I am all for not wasting money there are certain people and times when you make an effort and spend both time and money on someone who is presumably one of most special people in your life !

I'd be hoping to save more than a tenner...

With the savings I can get her an extra wee surprise on top of all the other wee surprises I always shower on her. (Smut alert...)

whether they have Chanel I don't know but its very good for most pefumes if anyones interested. Has she had No. 5 before? Personally i think it smells like.... well, nasty. Coco Mademoiselle is much nicer and cheaper, but a more younger fragrence.

Instead of just going for the fragrance at Christmas most of the department stores and Boots do gift sets and you often get body lotions extra for the same price as a fragrance. Or just buy from boots by Thursday and you have a points card if you spend £50 you get £12 in points

No 5 is all she uses, as far as I know. She likes because - she says - she only needs to put very little of it on. She doesn't like strong perfumes and I like them even less.

I don't have a Boots card but I think she does. There's just a limit on my thriftiness. Even I would baulk at saying to her, "Haw hen, jist nip intae Boots yirsel' and get yir ain Chrissmiss present. That way ye kin cop an extra twelve quid in points."

Just checked cheapsmells - they only do 'Allure Sensuelle' or whatever it's called.

I think trying to save money on something like this is a false economy - the time you and others will spend on this makes the savings very little for the effort you put in.

Chanel don't do gift sets, I asked about them last year in Debenhams & was told by the snotty bitch behind the counter that they don't do gift sets because they don't have too!
