Calling National Rail Workers Who Love Death Metal

Advanced if you can Bar - normally cheaper to do that providing you do it 2 weeks in advance and also should be even cheaper if you can specify which trains you want to get.

Martin (non National Rail Worker Who Doesn't Love Death Metal)

Won't make any difference on the East Coast York to Donny which is a rip off at £13 return for a 20 minute ew journey.
If you are going straight to the course there is a decent bus service from the station, can probably do plus bus to save a couple of quid.
You can do York to Thirsk for peanuts with Grand Central in advance.
Check the times though as it doesn't apply to all their services.
Just a short walk from the station to the course.
Can get some decent deals in advance York to Manchester, look at two singles rather than a return.
Can work out to be the best option.
Don't forget to wear a tie at Thirsk if in the premier enclosure!!!!

If you book via the operator(s) websites, you might avoid the booking & card fees that they sting you with on thetrainline.com.

Thank you everybody for your help. In particular, Arkwright, who I think put the rest of you to shame.

I am very excited about the trip.

I fly to Manchester. Then I dump my bags in York (our base) and catch up with the boys in Donny racecourse for the Thursday evening meeting.

Then it is racing in York and Thirsk on the Friday. And York racecourse on the Saturday.

All in all, it is a very exciting trip. I expect to be in rag order crawling off the plane in Dublin on the Sunday.

A follow up to this.

I booked my train ticket from Manchester Airport to Doncaster. Did it on trainline.com. It cost me £21 in total. When I got on the train, the conductor pointed out that I had got the date wrong when I sorted it out online. I had put in 20th July instead of 21st July. Of course, the ticket machine at the airport station had allowed me to pick up an out-of-date ticket. The petty prick then charged me full price for a ticket (£25). It is almost impossible to retrieve the money.

I've done the same trick with air tickets. It was an extremely expensive mistake.

So Euro - re the fat lazy f-star-star-**** who works at Lanark train station and insists that her job is to pick up litter and not to inform train users about anything which might affect them or sell them tickets or anything of a useful nature - what is the best way to work it right up her hole?

I am assuming that a good boot right in the curtains would be frowned upon.

No train company would just employ someone to clean at a small station like Lanark. She must be a ticket seller as well. All you can do is get her name and write in.
