Can I just say...

I never look at any nonsense in chit chat
What I like about this is that here is someone who comfortably swerves Chit Chat because it's not for him and the fact Chit Chat material pops up in New Threads and New Posts obviously isn't an issue.

That said, if he wants to know why someone is temporarily suspended (not outright banned) the answer is there in Chit Chat discussion about it.

Anyway, I think this was a well-intentioned thread from Maurice that has devolved into a Chit Chat-esque debate at a forum where some are clearly very sensitive about seeing non racing material.

Pretty odd, imo, as virtually every specialist racing/betting/Pointing forum I've ever seen has a Chit Chat/Off Topic/Lounge folder where forumites can discuss anything and everything and those who want it use it and those who don't swerve it.

I think a few long-standing forumites are a bit controlling about what others write when the real solution is for them to simply not care and stick to what they do like.

No need for all this drama tbh.

Finally, there are now EIGHT threads on specific races this Saturday - if any forumites are precious about what material appears on this website and how it should be myopically racing and betting focussed, they are more than welcome to contribute to them.

This will hpefully be my last post on this thread as I like racing threads for racing

It would be wrong to say my enjoyent of the forum is not lessened by logging on and seeing posts of no relevance to me from chit chat immediately front facing

If these remain in chit chat and I can have a view that just shows me general racing topics, everyone can win

Thank you all for your well wishes. Much appreciated.

AS for the main page, I am guessing that this is what is meant:

That's a no brainer - I can see about deselecting the Chit Chat forum from showing up there - but if you want to be up to date on those posts, you may need to subscribe to the, I can check :D

That would make most sense as you can see at the top it says Talking Horses - UK's Largest Horse Racing Forum.

Then of the 5 threads listed below it only 1 is related to Horse Racing!

That sounds like a good solution to me, Mister B.

I've no desire to force people to read material they don't want to read - I just don't think non Chit Chat fans trying to control what others write and being frankly rude about it is the solution.

Far better if Chit Chat continues to exist for those who want it, but isn't promoted in New Posts and New Threads and the only way to even be aware of chit chat content is to make the proactive personal decision to visit the chit chat folder and view it.

There - done. Now "Chit Chat " and "Other Sports" have been removed from the latest post section. So if you rely on Latest Posts to display the Chit Chat and Other Sports, you're gonna have to subscribe to those - or just scroll on down to check out the chit chat stuff like how it was done in the old days LOL

I will will notify everyone later on this via a mass PM.

How does one subscribe to Chit Chat and Other Sports? Had a look and I couldn't find a button for it.

To clarify...

The 'Can I Just Say...' thread I started was a racing thread and not a chit-chat one.

It was persistently diverted away from racing despite efforts to keep it a racing topic.

Was it a racing thread or a glazing thread ? Finding it funny that someone was upsetting longstanding members, answers on a postcard to who those were. Whilst congratulating someone on starting some horse racing threads on a horse racing forum. Both of these things I saw as pointless as anyone using the forum could see there had been those threads started. And anyone who's been pissed off by him whoever they are knows they've been pissed off by him and don't need you seeing the funny side of something which rightly or wrongly has aggravated them.

My post never went off topic it was a direct response to you.

The first sentence though, DO. Just look at it.

" I recognise that Ian has pissed off a number of long-standing forumites lately - I have to confess I find the reactions quite amusing since he has so obviously been commenting with his tongue glued to the inside of his cheek."

You can't expect Danny or others not to respond to that, surely?

All my interactions with Ian have been friendly, but he didn't need thanking for starting threads on horse racing topics either.

This thread was always long odds-on to go 'off topic' in the eyes of some.

Because in the context of everything else that's happend recently on this forum, it wasn't necessary, in my opinion.

Yet you imply you have the right to tell others they should have 'kept it on topic', DO.

I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one.

D.o he hasn't said you can't thank him even though it is weird. He's saying a thank you thread is not a horse racing thread. What comment could I have possibly passed on a horse ? The only response that seems would of been fitting would of been a hip hip hooray 3 cheers for Ian for starting horse racing threads?

How many people have you ever thanked for starting a horse racing thread in the 20 odd years you've ever been on here ?

Marb, regardless of what your own opinion may be - and I respect it - you do not have the right to tell me who I should be thankful to for anything in this life.

I started it as a racing topic/thread. Perhaps my wording didn't make it clear but I thought I was dealing people with the intellectual capacity to see it for what it was meant to be.

Seeing that I wasn't succeeding, I tried several times, as I am now, to clarify that the purpose of the thread was to thank Ian for his efforts to get the focus back on what unites us, ie racing.

The horse has probably bolted from the stable but I'll go and shut the door anyway by editing my original post. Hopefully that will help newcomers to the thread.

I thanked him as well, marb, precisely because of the context you mention. There had been disquiet at the number of chit chat type posts not related to horse racing blurring the front page (since corrected by Mr B) and a bit of finger pointing at Ian for starting them. In that context I thought it was was good to see the upcoming races posts. Any of us could have put them up instead of getting a bit upset about the non-racing content, but it was Ian who chose to do so and I think thanks was deserved.

I understand.

I've also got the 'intellectual capacity' to read what words and sentences mean.

I think you are right. Your wording didn't make it clear, maybe to some, but not others.

Onwards and upwards, let's get back to talking horses.

I really don’t see why it was an issue - it clearly says “chit chat” under the title of the post, so it’s easy enough to not open those if you don’t want to.

And they say women are the troublemakers….

( for the record - and I’ve got more reason than most to be annoyed with T, I’m not sure what he did this time was necessarily deserving of such a “harsh” suspension - but given that nothing at all happened when he was ripping into me so much, I like to think of this more as karma. )

ANYWAY ( horse racing here 👇)

I’m still trying to find the 2006 Grand Military recording if anyone has any ideas - don’t want to buy it from Racenet ( or whoever it is these days) unless I have to - just want it saved to my phone to watch when I’m feeling nostalgic!!
