Just been in my Halifax branch for 2 hours as i have had about £2000 stolen from my account, all from cash machines in Harrow and Spain in the last 5 days. :angy:
I really cant believe it and am absolutely gutted so now ive been to the police and am waiting for an incident number from the fraud office so i can make a claim.

Speaking of the Halifax, this email, which came with a Halifax logo, looks iffy, doesn't it?

And if it's genuine they should get someone in who can write English for future communications.

Dear Client of Halifax Online!

Summer 2006 has been hard for our Bank due to the increasing number of clandestine practices.
Sensible information about our clients is of constant interest for swindlers.
Lots of people seek protection from the hazard of losing money from their bank accounts.

In this respect, Bank announces that September is the fraud-fight month.
Before Octomber 1st all our clients should activate new account protection system.
We have upgraded and considerably improved it. Top EFT specialists tested the system, and independent experts have already affirmed its reliability.
We do not publish this information in mass media in order that malefactors could not employ it criminally.

You have been randomly chosen for the final testing of the account protection system.
Now we offer you to go to http://security.halifax.co.uk/update.co and activate the new security system by entering the Internet banking as always.
Currently you may notice some defects.
We are aware of them so you do not have to inform us of these problems, we shall obviate the difficulties on our own.

Please note that on and after September 1st you will have to use the new security system, otherwise your account will be blocked until your identity is proven.
That is why we strongly recommend changing over to the new security standard as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Fraud Fight Department

On the flip side, last week I received my new servicecard from NatWest, but had to sign a return slip to get the card activated. A couple of days later I got a letter from NatWest telling me that my signature wasn't mine. I was given two options. Go into any branch and submit another signature or activate the card online. I attempted the second option last night. After answering five security questions correctly and telling them of four recent direct debits from my account... I failed the security test!!!

I recently received my new servicecard. They asked for nothing to be sent to them as proof that I had received it, but told me that it would be active (thus de-activating the previous card) within a week, or when I first used it. When my old card got declined in Safeways a day later, I knew my 'up to a week' in fact meant 24 hours.

This was only a nuisance as it meant I had the pain in the arse job of going round all of my online betting accounts withdrawing balances and then updating bank card details without being more than 99% sure that the monies would find their way back ok. The problem was magnified at both Blue Square where after withdrawing, they didn't allow me to change cards online (I ended up opening a new account), and the company that loves giving money away, Mansion. I hadn't withdrawn from them previously for two reasons. Firstly, that they might put up another ridiculous give-away, and secondly (and this was the real reason) that I was too lazy to get my house in order and send off the copies of passport/bank cards/inside leg measurement that they deemed necessary.

And another thing - totally off subject. Ladbrokes appear to have blocked every account held in Gibraltar. Gits.

Take my word for it, you have done nothing wrong. The staff will be told not to make commitments in cases such as yours, for obvious reasons. But it's a shame thyat they can't put your mind at rest.

D'oh - that'll be shut by Relks in the morning then, you should know that!!!! I know it's a bugger but it only takes a minute to change if you ring up!

No they haven't - well, they have, but in error. It's the poker and casino accounts they've blocked but they buggered up and managed to block all the sportsbook accounts too. I got mine unblocked when one of the lads in the office rang his missus and got her to unblock all our sportsbook accounts in a round-robin call whereby the phone was passed around. Don't email though as they'll deny there is a problem accessing accounts - telephone them!!

Fudge - if you were ar the sales, you havent had a £2000 addition to your equine family that you didnt notice???

How is your mare anyway - wasnt she in foal??
n(probably yeaers ago and the offspring is now running!!!)

That's because it is. It is not genuine Brian.

HSBC have always been brilliant at this. I had an ex-housemate who stole a card 3 years ago, he fakes the signature on the back and proceeded to spend 648 in 1 day, including a stay at the crown plaza in cambridge on xmas eve. Even though it was over the xmas period it took only 6 days total for the bank to refund the money. They also refunded me a fraudulent transaction last week after only 2 days of investigation

Sorry for the confusion. It was the first two lines of your post that made me think you were actually asking a question.

Sounds like a skimming scam Fudge, though I must admit the language in the Halifax letter regarding how they describe themselves is a scream

Just a point of interest. The financial ombudsman has turned down cases in Ireland where an ATM card has been used, allegedly fradulently, with the correct PIN number. The basis being that either you have not been careful enough with your PIN number, or they have no way of knowing that you have not either a- used the card yourself or b- given it to someone else to use.

That's a con Brian
