"changes" Section Proposed

Ok we have heard the verdict from Kri and SS, how do the other mods feel about this? What have they said?
Personally I think it is everyone's forum and usually any changes should be agreed by most the members before anything happens, which is why this thread was opened.

I do think however (as someone has mentioned above) maybe a sub forum (like the mod one in this section) could be used for competitions, as sometimes we can have 10 or more stickies in the racing sections, with most being competition entries.

That would have the added bonus of whoever is running competitions at the time being aded as a moderator of that section so they can close any threads after the closing time for entries and stuff like that is required. Any views on that?

I totally agree about seperate sections for Birthdays and perhaps competitions apart from that, I think things are just fine the way they are!

I always read the RIPs and the discussions that surround some of the horses that are lost, and I love reading the same section when a horse survives after what appears to have been a fatal fall.

I also like the current way the RIP thread (very) occasionally disappears off of the first page when there don't appear to have been any fatalities. Unfortunately, it soon bounces back to the top again. :(

Diminuendo: hang on, there. I haven't got a 'verdict' on this at all. I care so little either way about it, I haven't bothered to form an opinion! It was something discussed in the Moderators' section and which I said I'd throw out for the forum to review, discuss, and decide. The result has nothing to do with being a Mod or not, it is what it is, and if the minority want it, the majority will have their way and we won't create it. Very simple. Try not to make out the Moderators to be some sort of villains, okay?

Honest Tom,
there should also be a sticky for you, that, as a "pro punter" it's a bad move to keep backing runners from a stable that you can't trust, although i can't say that i know of any one who would be so stupid, except for...... :D
We've had this argument before Derek. If you had a large store that made a good profit would you close it down because of shoplifting?

I suggest that folk get tougher skins and further 'Goodbye', 'flouncing off into the sunset' type topics just because (in this case, me) someone dares to disagree will just get deleted

I think a forum does need to evolve but adding too many new things at once can take the familiarity away from it, if people don't like/can't deal with the RIP thread then if its a sticky then they just don't need to open it ;) after all its hardly a surprise whats in its contents
One thing I do like the idea of is having all the comps in a sub section as during the large meetings its seems to take over half the page, other than that I'm a go with the flow type, what will be will be :)

I think one birthday thread would be a good idea. I am not sure whether a big changes thread might become a bit unwieldy and I like the idea of a competitions sub forum .

I'd be happy with a seperate section for competitions. When my friend Ramoth joined here last week I told her to go and introduce herself in the correct thread but mentioned she'd have a job finding it amongst all the other pinned topics as the competition had made it a bit cluttered

Honest Tom,
forgive me, my retention span was never all that good, although i can't be to sure.

Don't close the shop, prosecute all shop lifters and get rid of none profitable lines.

Good idea, Aldaniti (cred where it's due!) - let's do one Comps and bung all of them in it. (She says, not having a clue how to do it.) The recent Ascot one, with selections for all the days dotted throughout the site, is a good reason why to do it. (And yes, I have culled all the selections now, as Ascot's over.)

As for Birthdays, I've culled all but the most recent, and I think perhaps if no-one feels strongly otherwise, all date-sensitive threads like 'good thing in the 3.30 at Newton Abbot today' can be dispensed with quickly, since they just take up dead space. I'm happy to keep pruning back the deadwood, so that we don't end up in a jungle of overgrown, out-dated threads.

Col had already suggested the comps sub forum which makes a great deal of sense I think . So for example for the TH -v- FF matches Ted could be made a temp moderator for that section .

Nobody on here knew Col had suggested it - so as the site owner likes the idea already, we should get on and make it. Do you know how to, Ardross? I'll give it a go, though I'd hate to lose anything.

Pay attention at the back !

Seriously , though it would make life a lot easier for those of us who do the comps . If for example someone wants to run a comp like DG has done ( in fact where is DG hope all ok with him ? ) then they could just PM Col and he could make them a Mod for the currency of the comp .

Yes, the other team should have a co-Moderator on board. What do we do with an individual's comp, like SteveM's - should he Moderate/co-Moderate his own comp?

Not my idea it was Colins & I just agreed it would be a good idea ;)

It depends on the nature of the comp . Comps like TTF or Steve's can just remain in such a sub forum. They don't need moderating unlike for example comps where there are entries every day as all that is needed is to update the scores from time to time .

Well, we are all getting somewhere, which is nice... :D

I think we're agreed that we're keeping the Equine RIPs - would anyone like to see the title changed to reflect perhaps a slightly broader scope, i.e. 'Out of Training'? RIP does look rather deterring bang at the top of the page, so perhaps we could include injuries and illnesses which remove some of our more well-known horses from the game (temporarily or otherwise) and also discussions on veterinary features? Something like 'Horse Welfare' without the 'animal rights' overtone? We could put 'Scratchings' like the RP used to, but frankly I don't know that would mean much to some of us - it certainly didn't to me, I just thought they meant non-runners! Dunno, just chucking some thoughts around here for those of us who are interested in the subject...

We're agreed that all Comps will now go under a general banner, and that in team comps the other side will provide a co-Moderator.

We're agreed we're keeping Birthdays, though I'll clear the birthday cards off the mantelpiece fairly soon after, to keep the site from getting too dated.

I'm going to also dust off the shelves of outdated 'sure things' for races which have come and long gone, or else we won't see the wood for the trees. (I agree, a badly mixed metaphor there!) Perhaps keep them up for a few days and if there's no further discussion, they're gone.

So far, so good, guys 'n' gals?

How about calling a subsection Health & Welfare? you could then inc any health issues like injuries & illnesses as well as the RIP thread plus threads on horses out of action through their injuries inc any updates on their condition etc
this would also cover sires & dams that have passed away

Helen

Can we call the main section 'Health & Efficiency'. :D

Apologies that that quip is probably only understood by those of a certain age.

For all the changes proposed, I'd only support the Competitions sub-forum and even that would be lukewarm. A positive culling policy on obsolete threads as is now happening should take care of most issues. I'm with the others in saying that I ignore topics that don't interest me.
