For now I have changed some settings

Firstly you have to login to be able to view topics.

Secondly I am going to have to manually approve any new members, so if you have recommended anyone join and they can't get straight in, please tell them to be patient (or email me in case I thought they were someone else :) )

It's obvious why I have done this, hope everyone agrees.

Col

Agreed - perhaps it would be worth adding something to the homepage to explain the position

Great idea making people have to login in to view the topics..might encourage more to join up.

Don't bother if it's a long story but can someone tell me what exactly has happened? There seems to be a lot of arguement which I haven't been up to date with as I haven't been on much recently.

Something involving a younger member of our community with multiple aliases and betting etc. i believe who's now been banned.

I think that's the jist of it.

Martin

Due to the antics of a nasty piece of work called Joe who had a number of different identities , tried to spam people , welch on a bet and entered the FF chatroom calling himself a name that was grossly offensive to the memory of a late lamented forumite

The changes are to stop multiple identities

hi ardross, sorry about earlier. i've read the moderator thread now. but about this betting with people here, including a kid of 16. your a lawyer, ain't yer - shouldn't col or the people betting have a licence, and shouldn't they swerve betting with kids uner 18?

Fascinating - a number of new people appear to be signing up and a few not seen for a while evidently are signing in rather than viewing as guests

And I see that denizen of the C4 forum Jay Torbitt in the active list! Hello Jay hope all well with you .

Every time I hear Jay's name mentioned I remember the days we use to meet in the Channel 4 gardening forum. Those were the days! B)

yep and the stupid software didn't mail me to tell me anyone had signed up :(
Please accept my apologies if you were waiting for an extended period, all accounts have now been approved

looks like no answer on this one - bit disappointing.

Charlie I am not a free legal advice service - especially as you are parroting a question asked of me by ian Davies on OH racing - are you his ambassador to TH ?

''ardross,i already have lawyer thanks, whose charges are quite reasonable,
it's not me who is betting without a bookie licence, and with 16yo kids too. so i don't need legal advice. i was just wondering what a lawyer made of it all.''

RE:Ian Davies B)

happy to advise on your misuse of the apostrophe

The apostrophe is possessive not required every time there is an s at the end of a word

Thanks for the unasked for, and rather patronising, English lesson.
Note to self

Must try harder, must use the correct grammar,a visit to the Bitesize website would be of benefit
