Cheltenham 2015 - Day 1 - Place your bets

My thoughts as follows:

Supreme Novices
I want to be against Douvan here, he’s too short on what he’s achieved and priced on who trains him.

L’Ami Serge win (7/2, Hills)
Qewy ew (14/1, Powers)

Arkle
Should be a one horse race. Vibrato Valtat would be favourite in a normal year and his hold up style could see him run through the rest of the field for second. Anything that tries to go with Un de Sceaux will get crucified. I have the Slim Chance double placed in November, Un de Sceaux (4/1) and Vautour for the JLT (3/1).

Ultima Business Solutions Handicap Chase

Almost impossible to pick so I’ve backed four (all ew with VC, 5 places)

Mendip Express (16/1)

The Druid’s Nephew (9/1)
Ned Stark (9/1)

Champion Hurdle

Surely the favourite wins this. I have a double from a month or so ago Faugheen (6/4) with Silviniaco Conti on Friday (7/2). No bets today.

Mares Hurdle

Couldn’t back Annie Power at the price but couldn’t bet against her. No bet.

National Hunt Chase

Only a few books offering four places here. Cause of Causes has been plotted for this and has a good jockey. Sego Success has close to the best form and will definitely stay, SWC is a good pilot too.

Novices' Handicap Chase

I was at Cheltenham in Jan when Generous Ransom won, and I resolved to back him if he turned up in a handicap at the Festival. He looks a few lbs ahead of the handicapper. Thomas C was second at the festival last year and should be suited by big field/strong pace scenario here.

I don't bet unless I'm at the track but my fun selections are:

Seedling
Vibrato Valtat
Ned Stark
Faugheen
The Pirate's Queen
Cogry

Fav's look hard to oppose today but my record backing short prices is awful so I'm taking them on for small stakes.
L'Ami Serge in the first race, form looks fairly strong to me and at the price is the pick over Douvan.
UDS looks the real deal but an unexposed one at a huge price is Sail By The Sea and I think we might see a different Gods Own on this ground. Backed them 2 ew small stakes.
Fancy a few at big prices in the 3rd race, took Lost Legend, Smart Freddy ew.
Backed the Fly ew in champ hurdle but really think Faugheen is the Frankel of NH racing and could hose up with ease.
I fancy The Pirates Queen to go well in the Mares at around 25-1, beat Balmusette by 8l and that one won well at Donny recently.
Not much interest in the last 2 so small bets on Sego Success and Cocktails at Dawn.
Will have the proper bets later in the week.

Un De Sceaux ante post and small ew on Smashing
Gallant Oscar ew
bets on Jezki and Hurricane Fly but Faugheen is part of a Lucky 15 with Un De Sceaux, Annie Power and Very Wood

fancy Black Thunder 2.40 to run a good race and get a place or more , fell both times at cheltenham in RSA and Coral Cup before that but was travelling ok , only a lb higher than when 1/2L behind What a Warrior due to jocks claim.
available at 16s im more worried about the big field as unpl all runs with 16+ but druids nephew the same and thats 8s.

Was backing The Druid's Nephew all week and for some reason talked myself out of it. Most annoying.
 
Suppose the booking of gerraghty signalled it's chances , faugheen and Annie power to do the biz , shortened a bit
 
Bit late after off but think Polly peachum better with drop in trip and going LH plus better ground
