Cheltenham 2026

Having a look through the cards tomorrow and I'm very tempted to lay Romeo Coolio in the BANC at 3/1. Money has piled in for him after Kargese's win but 3/1 is a ridiculous price in such a deep race
You’d want to be waiting till tomorrow and seeing the ground before betting into that field.

Grounds crucial in that. Rain forecast tonight, its just how much.

Do you know if the 40k they laid on backmersackme came from within the yard? Emmet's horses have been being backed like they can't lose recently all for them to run shite

I didn't hear that reported. There are not many people that could have that bet.

Finished level at the end of day 1. Supreme was crucial my book including doubles was:
El Cairos 900/148 - had some great bets here but also too much 5/1 and 6/1 NRNB nonsense.
Old Park Star 500/120 - again a little too much 9/4 but a couple of tidy doubles made up for that.

The Tizzard horse winning would have been a killer. I always include my ante-post non-runners with my day 1 figures - all the other bets were losers - BDA small, BDA win double with Gaelic Warrior, painful Ultima where I had Hyland and Handstands (terrible bet) each way and Leave of Absence win only. Also lost on Wade Out.

Main horse tomorrow is Majborough 280/68 also have small l'eau du Sud at 33s (first bet I placed last March). The Big Westerner I have a terrible position on now with the drift but I have some 20s with The Yellow Clay and 14s King Rasko Grey in the opener.

The big question tomorrow is do you believe the market adjustment to the British trained horses in the Turners Hurdle due to the result of the Supreme.

Im on King Rasko, and he’s still the solid bet. Im choosing to ignore it.
When Sobers been punted into second fav, despite Patrick being on, Im not taking much notice, believe your eyes at this point.

If Nicholls horse wins so be it, been here far too many times with his horses recently. Hopefully they dont let Cobden have a freebie in front giving it a stop start race.

Markets for the first 2 races are going to be fascinating.
Kaid D’authie is my selection but Kitzbuhel is criminally overpriced

Really enjoyable day for me today.
On Old Park Star in the first so that set me up well - Bossy was a disappointing individual in the paddock.
Kicked myself for not going with course form and consistency on Kargese who is as tough as they come - and she can jump!
Had the one - two in the 4yo Hcp - because they literally stood out in the paddock. Saratoga and WInston Junior both stunning horses.
Had Quebecois in the next as again he looked a picture
Lossie and Lexi in the next
Moon D'Orange who I took 50s on
Then blew out in the last

So all in all I had a good day - we won't talk about the bus though.....

My selections for the second day:

Turners Novices Hurdle: BALLYFAD

Brown Advisory Chase: THE BIG WESTERNER (win), OSCAR'S BROTHER (each way)

Queen Mother Champion Chase: QUILIXIOS (each way)

Champion Bumper: KEEP HIM COMPANY

You were out Lingfield specialist Stodge -is that still your thing.
Not as much, a lot has happened in the last 15 years.

I'm now in East London and don't go racing as much as I did. My regular tracks these days are Sandown and Plumpton but I still enjoy Lingfield for turf racing - both jumps and flat.

The days of standing on the roof of the Eclipse Stand watching a Class 7 claimer in a sleet storm are long past - thank goodness.

Some of the prices in the two novice races are generous

No-one knows anything
Absolutely.

The first race today is as big an each way race for a bet as I've ever seen.

Shuttle Diplomacy and Klimt Madrik are my two against the field.

Envoi Allen has been declared to run in his 8th Cheltenhan festival in a row. There can't be any horse has come close to this record.

Eight festivals in a row has been achieved by at least L'Escargot ( 1968 to 1975 ) and Desert Orchid ( 1984 to 1991 ). Tiger Roll missed out in 2016, but ran in another eight.
