Cheltenham Festival 2018 NRNB

It a shame really I think it kills the Ante post Markets. When they first started doing these NRNB for the festival I think you could quite often find a horses who was priced on the basis that he probably had something else as his target for instance something like Fox Norton would have been massive for the Champion Chase because it would have been assumed that the Ryan Air was his target not the best example but you get what I mean. Firms have since learned their lessons in the main.

With regards Skybet I really can't get any sort of bet on with them anyway. I've heard down the years all people moaning online that they can't get bets on with firms and never really took much notice. Having never really had many problems myself I simply put it down to people arbing them to death and is in some respects understandable. Also people trying to get large amounts on silly overnight markets on low grade racing fair enough although I do see the argument that if the bookie is prepared to have a market they should lay bets on it. I'm now starting to have a few problems myself with William Hill and Skybet the worst offenders the strange thing is that I've hardly used either of the accounts down the years and can't really remember battering them at any point in fact I'd struggle to recall any decent winner. I also in the main stick to the big races big Saturday handicaps and Graded Chases and I'm not really a big hitter or long term winner. I find it strange that trying to get £20 on a horse in a race like the Bet victor Chase at 12 oclock on the day of the race with the same price freely available elsewhere and Skybet offered me something stupid like £3.Or limit an Ante post Canadian to 13p stakes...bizarre !

Apologies for moaning as I must seem like countless others that moan about these things online but I just really am very surprised that I've fallen into this category. Its just really frustrating when you fancy an honest bet (no more than a fair bet) for the festival and you can't get one banana to two bananas. I used to use an old private bookmaker who once told me he loved seeing my face as he knew he didn't have to worry about how he'd get his new car each year .

In fact so infuriated am I with sky bet I might make it my mission in life to destroy them, take them for a mill with a 5p acca or something if I can squeeze that past their trading counter.

I like Skybet and along with Bet365 they're about the only bookie who I can get a bet on with, though Skybet do restrict my stakes more than 365.

They're also probably the best around (again with 365) in their promotions, albeit to small stakes.

But I agree entirely with your sentiments re ante post betting. In the main it's been dead for a while but this shift towards going NRNB at the turn of the year has caused a huge compression in the prices and it's hard to find value with anything in either of their books.

However if other bookies stand their ground and continue to apply ante post terms until nearer the day then at least we, as punters have the choice, which can't be a bad thing.

Shows how bad I must be at gambling that I've not had an account restricted.

Saying that, I limit myself on the horses, till at least I build up a better understanding of racing and have time to look at handicap marks a little more.

I like what Hills have done with their money back only if the horses misses the Festival completely. Slightly bigger prices and obviously the trick is to identify those that
will only have the one target - Penhill the best example I could find.

I honestly think the handicaps must be the races that you could probably dig up some value in as they are overlooked in the main. I have my eye in particular on a couple of horses for the Pertemps final however they don't make the lists as yet but I'd feel certain that they'll be there on the day. Having looked very briefly through the lists for the Handicaps its a similar story. Ones I've had my eye on for certain races aren't included and half the ones that are included I'd be doubtful they'd run. Its something that is going to require a lot of work between now and then but I think I'm going to attempt it anyway and leave the main races with what I've already staked and the rest anything else can wait until the day.

The problem with the handicaps is you have limited information as to idea what the weights will be.

Yes, you can take an educated guess based on their current OR and likely targets between now and then but it's still difficult and even more so with the Irish horses where the BHA won't allocate them a weight until the week or so before the race.

You could back an Irish horse now based on it's HRI rating + say 7lb to allow for an estimated BHA hike only to see Phil Smith do a Presenting Percy of last year and hit him with a 16lb rise. The fact he still won is besides the point.

There will be exceptions but the handicaps are hard enough to fathom on the day let alone when also trying to predict the weights.

If this is the route you take though maybe stick to the Novice "handicap" on the opening day as it's generally so compressed.

Just got an alert from Betfred. Apparently now NRNB for the championship races. Doesn’t the fat one realise how far behind others he is? [emoji2]

As said its a lot of work :(

Do Bet 365 and Skybet offer this as a promotion to attract custom or does it save them money in the long run. I'd imagine those that don't go NRNB must be ahead by the week of the festival from all the ante post bets which have gone south due to injuries or defection to other races. Of course they'd have liabilities but they can't be beyond the money already in their pockets.

If it is just a promotion they should think again as the general consensus on here is let us take our chance at the bigger odds. I use these two bookies frequently but I'm now far more likely to look elsewhere from my a/p bets.

Danny - Skybet reset every 24 hours, so you can have the max staked bet every day. It's a bit of pain, but you can build up a stake over time and there's plenty of days until the festival...

That's mental and was not aware of that Perp. If I have 3pound a day every day on double shuffle for the Cup I might just be where I want to be come off time

Next year I'll have to start staking in April :)
