Cheltenham - no five days and no Saturday thank you !

Royal ascot could have every race sponsored and make a very nice sum...but tradition doesnt go "out of the window"

And Ascot took the Champion Stakes away from Newmarket for the sake of it?

A very prestigious race that was taken away for marketing a new event to boost demand and profit maximize Ascots season given the poor turn outs for heritage handicap days.

I fail to understand how the thought that the Cheltenham Festival was once 3 days of unremitting quality has become a widespread belief. Brain washing with a rose tint to it. There have always been races that are significantly below high class at the Festival. I dont believe it has ever intended to be an 18-28 strong procession of the highest class races whatever some people may think that it ought to be.

I'm a fan of the four day festival as well. There is still plenty of depth to all the races, even the Fred Winter was a decent renewal this year and it is frequently the weakest race of the four days.

Agree with this, love the four but would hate a Saturday.

Punchestown have extended to the Saturday and it's just wrong....one day too many

You're right, of course, Goober, but only 3 days meant less dross to sit through before the interesting races.

I suppose that if Cheltenham really wanted 5 days, they could just turn all 4 current days into 6-race cards to save inventing another 4/5 races to make up the 5th day, but doubtless that would mean losing revenue in the bars.

Running into a Saturday takes away the holiday feeling of being at the races instead of at work.
