Chepstow
2.10 ALTIOR (eyecatcher) Trainer comments, "He must have good ground and won a bumper at Market Rasen in May 2014 by 14L, but did not run again until February at Newbury where he finished third. He has enjoyed a very good summer break and will resume his career over hurdles on genuine good ground.I think he has a lot of ability and his form during the spring does not do him justice."
“He developed a splint which held us back and he wasn’t going to get a full season novice hurdling so we opted to stay in bumpers. He has schooled brilliantly and it will be disappointing if he doesn’t get close to the top over hurdles.” NAP!
2.10 DESERTMORE HILL - Trainer comments "He finished third on his only outing in Ireland between the flags. When he began his British racecourse debut in bumpers, he was very keen and finished third on g/soft at Ludlow in March. He then won a bumper on g/soft in April when showing a decent turn of foot from halfway.I will now start him off over hurdles he jumps well and will want middle distances to start with." won l/t/o for the thread
2.10 INCHIQUIN ALL STAR (eyecatcher)
trainer>He won on his 5th start in an irish point to point at rathmorrisey in march. On his other 4 starts he was 2nd twice and 3rd once and also slipped up on the home bend on his 2nd outing when in contention.I might run him in a bumper or send him novice hurdling later in the year.
chef says, Stable out of form when he ran last time but I did watch the race and he travelled really well before unsurprisingly blowing up. I think this race may be too hot for him but worth keeping an eye on and could be interesting if they are going for a handicap mark next two runs.
2.45 HOLLIES PEARL (eyecatcher) - trainer comments, "This progressive mare won three bumpers on the bounce, at Ffos Las on Heavy in January. She then won on good to soft ground at Chepstow and rounded off her season with success in the Listed Mares Bumper at Aintree in April. When she returns in the autumn, she will start her novice hurdling campaign in mares' races. She is a very talented mare, who will only get better as she progresses up the hurdling route."
2.45 BRISE VENDEENNE -trainers comments, “She has got some placed form and was placed in a listed race. She might run at the Chepstow meeting in a couple of weeks’ time but is essentially going well and has pleased us since joining us.”
2.45 RENE'S GIRL - trainer comments "Last season she ran twice in bumpers and did well enough, without setting the world on fire. She will now go over hurdles to run in mares' novice events. Hopefully she will improve with the chance to jump obstacles. I think there is more to come from her."
chef says - The presence of the Hobbs runner Brise Vendeenne who also has very good form, stops me from having a bet in this race on Hollies Pearl.
3.20 COCKTAILS AT DAWN - trainer comments, "He finished second on his debut over fences in a novices' handicap chase at Ascot at the beginning of November. Throughout the rest of his novice season he had jumping and confidence issues. We eventually worked out that he had to be in control during his races. He has a lot of talent and a big engine. Now we have sorted out how to ride him, the only way is up for him. Hopefully he will progress again over fences."
3.20 RACING PULSE (eyecatcher) - trainers comments, "He was formerley trained by John Quinn, but missed last season due to injury. During the 2013/14 campaign, he ran four times over hurdles winning a novice hurdle at Newcastle on his British debut by 17 lengths. He then ran in two decent novice hurdles at Cheltenham when finishing third and then second at Musselburgh. He will now start his novice chasing campaign and should make a decent recruit to the stable."
3.20 REGAL ENCORE - trainers comments, "He is in great order following his summer break. Last season he won a two mile seven furlong handicap hurdle on good to soft ground at Exeter in February. The plan now is to send him novice chasing and he will start in a Beginners' chase during the autumn. I would like to think he will prove to be a graded performer over fences this season."
3.20 AS DEE ME - trainers comments, “He will go novice chasing and has an entry at Chepstow on Saturday. He kept on improving last year and is a very nice horse.”
chef says - with at least 3 runners liking to be up with or making the pace this could fall into the hands of one held up and at likely odds Regal encore will be my bet.
3.55 MONSIEUR GIBRALTAR - trainer cmments, “I like him a lot and he won his only start for us. He could run at Chepstow this weekend and I have entered him in the four-year-old handicap hurdle and the Silver Trophy.”
3.55 BIVOUAC - trainer comments, “We hope he has the scope and ability to make a high-class novice chaser this season. He is an exciting prospect and we are keen to use the four-year-old allowance.”
3.55 KAZERAK -trainers comments, “He won on his hurdles debut at Chepstow and was very consistent afterwards and placed in a lot of graded races. He is due to start off at Chepstow on Saturday October 10 in the four-year-handicap hurdle.”
chef says, I'm drawn towards the Nicholls horse but the prohibitive odds makes it a race to watch for me and no bet unless he goes 7/2 or bigger.
4.30 EARTHMOVES - trainers comments, "He is quite an attractive sort who won twice last season in novice hurdles. He will probably continue to run over hurdles in handicaps on decent ground. He might start off at Chepstow in October in The Silver Trophy. I would consider him a future novice chaser possibly later in the year."
4.30 HURRICANE HOLLOW (eyecatcher) - trainers comments, "Last season he won three of his four starts over hurdles with his first two wins when trained by Keith Dalgleish. He was then sent down from Scotland by his owner to be trained here at Lodge Hill. I think there is a decent pot in him and I might run him in The Greatwood at Cheltenham in November, but there are other options for him."
4.30 L'UNIQUE - trainers comments, "She will probably be the best mare I have sent chasing and I'm excited about her jumping fences. She is a big scopey mare, who will be competitive in mares' chases and should make her allowance work in her favour should she take on the geldings."
4.30 OUR KAEMPFER - trainer comments, " He has grown up a lot, as he was quite weak last season. We might change riding tactics as previously we have held him up in the majority of his outings. Last season he performed consistently winning on two of his outings over hurdles. I think his handicap mark over hurdles could be workable and I might try him in a big handicap before thinking about chasing."
4.30 ROCK THE KASBAH - trainer comments, “He won a novice hurdle at Fontwell and is hopefully an improver of a mark of 131. He could win a decent handicap hurdle and his first race will be in the Tote Silver Trophy at Chepstow.”
4.30 RON'S DREAM - trainers comments, "She is from a decent family that includes Wahiba Sands and Fistral Beach. Last season she won two of her eight starts and was also placed on three of her other outings. Her winning form is rock solid and she has definitely strengthened up during the summer. I think she can continue to improve over the winter months."
4.30 THE LIQUIDATOR - trainers comments, “He is back looking really well and he could start off a Chepstow on October 10 in the Silver Trophy but would want some cut in the ground. It is lovely to have him back and I’m not sure whether we will stick to hurdles or go chasing with him. We will discuss it with Roger Brookhouse and see.”
4.30 THE TOURARD MAN (eyecatcher) - trainers comments, "This gelding is a character and as tough as I have trained. Last season he was very consistent finishing second on two runs, third three times and won twice. When he returns in the autumn I might give him one more run in a handicap hurdle and then he will go novice chasing. He is a dual point-to-point winner in Ireland and finished second in a maiden hunter chase. I am hopeful he will progress again even though he is beginning his chasing season almost at the veteran stage of his career."
chef says - A race to watch as impossible to seriously fancy one in this. Could produce many future winners though.
5.05 AUDACIOUS PLAN - trainer comments, "Last season he ran seven times, winning twice and being placed second twice and third on three occasions. I though he ran a good race when finishing second at Punchestown in May, as the ground went against him.He is a brilliant jumper over fences and probably prefers genuine good ground. There will hopefully be plenty of improvement to come from him in staying handicap chases this season."
5.05 DROP OUT JOE - trainers comments, " Overall he endured a tough season, but it started well when he won a novice chase over two and a half miles on soft ground at Carlisle in October. His other very decent display came when he finished second in the Grimthorpe Handicap Chase at Doncaster at the end of February. I think the key to him is the ground as he definitely wants genuine good going to be seen at his very best. I've been delighted with the way he has summered, as he is now bigger and stronger. We will probably miss out the worst of the winter weather with him. There is definitely a decent staying handicap chase in him when conditions are in his favour."
5.05 THE ROMFORD PELE - trainer comments, "He now returns from an absence due to injury since October 2014. Previously he won on his final three outings at Worcester, Uttoxeter when winning the valuable Summer Cup by 14 Lengths and then at Cheltenham in October. We will probably give him an entry in the Hennessey, but his long term aim will be the Aintree Grand National. I think he is an ideal type for the race as he jumps and stays really well."
5.05 SAUSALITO SUNRISE - trainer comments, “He looked a decent novice chaser last year but fell in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and didn’t run again. He had a shoulder muscle injury and he will run at the first Chepstow meeting before we consider other options.”
5.05 SEGO SUCCESS - trainers comments, “He had a good season last year and he could start off at Chepstow on Saturday October 10 in the three-mile handicap. We will see how he works mid-week but we are ready to kick on.”
chef says - I'll be backing Audacious Plan e/way - looks to be on a good mark, jumps well, goes well fresh and handles the course.
5.40 BALLYVONEEN(eyecatcher)..trainers comments, "He has been a grand stable servant and i can run him virtually every other week during the autumn and winter months. He is that tough and honest and he thrives on his racing.Last season he ran 18times, between may 2015 and april 2015,placed on 13occasions and won 2 races.
His first success was at plumpton in an extended 3mile 1furlong handicap chase on soft ground. He was also a winner over fences at huntingdon over 2miles 7 and a half furlongs on good to soft ground. What is so pleasingabout this story is that he races for my own "The Ridgeway Racing For Fun Partnership" The people who are in this group thoroughly enjoy their days out and visits to plumpton on a winters afternoon. The thrill of being so closely involved with a horse that almost guarantees them a regular trip to the winners enclosure makes the game so much fun.Of course im keen to promote and offer this type of partnership. As long as Ballyoneen continues to enjoy his days out with the legions of fans,he will maintain his presence on the racecourse. He will resume his career in the autumn and i think he has actually improved.
chef says - has had to runs already this season, improving on his second outing. Handicapper has dropped him a couple of pounds and he likes the course. Likely to be thereabouts. Small e/way for me and a small r/f/c with Mor Brook.
5.40 MOR BROOK - trainer comments, "He has problems with his feet but was kindly given a chance by the handicapper to help him find an opportunity for his enthusiastic owners in an extended two and a half mile good ground handicap chase at Bangor at the beginning of May.Unfortunately the ground was too fast when he turned out at the same venue two weeks later. He never let himself down and in hindsight, perhaps I should not have run him so quickly. He does have the size and scope to perform well again this season, but we know he needs some cut in the ground to protect the ongoing problems he endures with his feet."
FAIRYHOUSE
3.30 RICH COAST - trainer comments, “Would you believe his schooling over fences at home had been brilliant! When he went to Listowel, I mentioned to Paul that he didn’t have to ride him, as we are trying to mind Paul, but he said that his schooling had been so good that he was more than happy to ride him. It was Sod’s Law that he fell at the first and Paul broke his leg! He jumped 30 fences after that at home and jumped great again, so we sent him to Gowran Park full of hope, but he came down to the first and two horses put the brakes on in front of him and he ran out of room, so he just stopped and refused! I’ll get him out again soon as he won’t want the ground too soft. He’s just been very unfortunate so far and hopefully his luck will change soon.”
chef says - could be the value e/way bet if it stays at 8 runners. Certainly bred to be decent.
