Cigarette cravings ...

My brother gave up smoking last New Year and a progress report from youngest daughter (aged 5, then) at the 3-week stage went: "Daddy's been ever such a good boy, he hasn't had a cigarette for 3 weeks ... but he's eaten all Mummy's chocolate!".

Keep up the good work Melendez - just don't take up chocolate instead!

Can't help much with your problem mel as I have never smoked but if you want a reality check try reading the thank you thread! sadly the result of smoking for 30yrs or so, mum was only 63

I know it must be hard, mum finally gave up when she was first told she had cancer so I dare say it helped her live for nearly five more years,

Your family will be appreciating your efforts I can assure you of that,

Best wishes & good luck

Helen

Wise advice Helen.

It is hard to do Melendez, but you've done six days - nearly a week - please do stick with it. As Helen says, your family will appreciate it and so, eventually, will you - honest!

Good luck with it.

PS - tell yourself you are now a "non-smoker" - not an "ex-smoker". That's a good psychological key that can be of help.

lol that is my model Bridie Barnes

Suck sweets, drink water. Only trace elements of nicotine are left in your system at this stage. The physical addiction is almost over.

Well done - keep going. When you get to the point where other people's smoke stings your eyes you've cracked it.

In the meantime console yourself with the fact that your skin will soon look so good it will knock 5 years off your age!!

Bridie above makes it look so cool and glamourous, but if she's a heavy smoker she'll look "kippered" in 10/15 years - and besides, who wants to snog an ashtray?

I agree. Smoke of any kind is extremely drying to the skin and it wrinkles three times as fast as no smoke and puckering every time you take drag. You've only got to look at the mouths of those who have smoked a lot to realise that 'cats bum mouth' is not attractive!

A friend of mine who could not give up kept old ashtrays stocked to the brim with ash and when he wanted a ciggie he smelled it, up close. Put him right off for life! Try it.

Bad idea. He'd have to fill them first. :nono:

I could send him a couple of stinking smelly ashtrays full if he likes though.

Yep. To be honest I'm starting to find it pretty easy. I've been at this stage before though, more than once, so I haven't yet felt it necessary to throw out the 17 packets of matches and 3 lighters in my top drawer at work. So far so good.

Keep going...

You will certainly be missing that nice long drag after a spicy meal.. The way a ciggie just goes so perfectly with a few glasses of whatever. And how nice one is with a cup of strong tea... How a good ciggie clams you down when things are just a little bit tense

Ask Obama :)

If nothing else will put you off, that description certainly will!

Yep,

I reckon this is the first complete calander month in twenty years, I haven't had a single puff. I have been off for longer, but would have had the occassional to less than occasional puff in weaker moments.

I've found it incredibly easy for the last few weeks, to be honest, which seems a bit odd given how difficult I found it on previous attempts. Obviously I'm not home and dry yet, but I'm definitely starting to think of myself as someone who doesn't smoke anymore, rather than someone who is just off them for the time being.
