"Coral Gold Gup" (Hennessy) 2024

Jamie Snowden was at WPM's the morning in July that we were; obviously he picked up something there !
Well picked Maruco.

As I recall I told Jamie to put Gavin up and ride him (the horse, not Gavin) quietly, that morning.

Not sure which coverage you had, Tanlic, but on the replay I watched via RTV the commentator namechecked him all the way round, including repeatedly noting his smooth progress up the inner in the final mile.

Off 148 today and will go up 7 or 8lbs to 155/156 so probably around the 11-4 mark depending, obviously on what the top weight is. Corach Rambler is likely to be on 159. I'm not sure I'd fancy DARG to beat CR getting only 3/4 pounds but it also means CR getting in with around 11-7.

Got to defend my postion Dessie

Please read my post more carefully. The horse was out the back door and yes as I see on the replay he mentions him but only when he is going through the entire field
I doubt unless someone backed him they even noticed. I certainly did not. He mentioned the horse at 4 min 13 and then never mentioned himaagin for 1 minuute 10 seconds.

I am talking about when he started to become a factor which was at 4 minutes 58 when he caught my eye but the commentator seemed oblivious to the fact until 25 seconds later.

I don't know how much he will go up I was only going by last year but then Cloth Cap got whacked up 12 lbs when he won the race

Are we watching the same commentary, Tanlic?

I haven't watched it again since yesterday but my recollection is that the commentator mentioned every horse several times through the first two miles.

I'll watch it again and get back to you after the fitba'.

RTV commentary - he definitely mentioned DARG every time bar one he went through the entire field but he was taking two or three fences to do so, and he picked up on the progress DARG was making from after the [missed] cross fence on the final circuit.

I think backers of Mahler Mission can count themselves a touch unlucky. He did the best of those that raced up just off the strong pace.

...

It will be interesting to see what the sectionals say.

Hopefully Simon Rowlands will do a piece on the race but the RTV site has put up this:

I'd have thought a long straight like Newbury would have a closing sectional par around the 100-102% but it looks like it must be higher. Even so, it looks like a very solid finishing sectional from DARG, which, if anything, makes the performance even better than I'd assumed.

His blog is now up and he mentions the race almost in passing. I was hoping for a deeper analysis but there's enough there to suggest my initial suspicion that they went too fast is wrong, in which case I'll be taking a very positive view of the form.

It looks like the handicapper has done so too. He's raised the winner a whopping 11lbs

That new rating puts DARG on the same mark as Corach Rambler. They'd need to be at least 166 horses to have a chance of winning the National and that kind of mark would give them chances of being placed in the Gold Cup. Conflated (168) and Noble Yeats (167) were third and fourth this year.

Edit:With the foregoing in mind, I've stuck some fun money on Gino for the GC at 66/1.

I like Snowden but according to the Post (so this could be bollocks) he may be supplemented for the KG. This is a terrible idea - he did not look comfortable in the Pendil.

Sounds like the Cotswold Chase is very-much Plan A, Euro.....I'd be surprised to see him line-up at Kempton.

Looked up his sire It's Gino for fun.
Dead heated for third in Arc with Soldier Of Fortune at 150/1 behind Zarkava and Youmzain.
Finishing behind him were Getaway, Schiaparelli and Blue Bresil.
Reads awfully like a NH leading sires list.
