I have family going to Cork races today. They have asked for tips. I know nowt about any of the horse running. Assistance would be appreciated

Sprint track closed today Tout so the 6 furlong races will be running around the bend which needs to be taken into consideration. Have been debating with Slim Chance last night regarding the conditions race over 6F - I think Gordon Lord Byron has a chance of turning over Croisultan. On ratings he has a fair bit to find but he is on a steep upward curve as against Croisultan who rarely runs two races in a row. C's second to Excelebration where Windsor Palace was third looks very appealing on paper but he is not the most consistent and spat the dummy out on his last visit here - admittedly on very fast ground. GLB's trainer said he didn't like the ground last time at Tipperary when winning but am hoping for looser heavy ground this evening and am waiting to see what price he is in the w/o market. Will be backing GLB straight at 4/1, insureabet 2 places at 5/2 and hoping for something around 1/1 in the w/o market.

Mojita in the 7:15 would be my main win bet of the evening and 5/2 is a decent enough price in whats looks a shallow enough race. Ground and trip suit, ran very well LTO and trainer is in good form. With question marks over the others she would have a strong favourites chance.

Edit: GLB is 5/4 w/o with Powers which is a bet.

Monteball wins the last. I suggest they go to The Hibernian Hotel for drinks with their winnings and mention my name (working class hero).

Thanks. Of course if they do well I'm a hero if they lose then its your fault. Standard terms.

They might need to be aware of this, from irishracing.com

Racegoers to Cork are advised that the Fermoy to Mallow road is closed indefinitely following an accident.

Patrons are being told to divert through Limerick or Cork.

Also there are roadworks on the Mitchelstown to Mallow road and diversions are in places.
The going remains soft at the track for a six-race Flat card

The dark one on the card is Packsapunch in the 6.15 at 8/1.

An even darker one might be Moscow Treat in the same race. Unlucky in running fourth on his penultimate start in Dundalk and subsequently travelled well enough through what looks a decent Navan handicap before failing to pick up. Since been dropped a sharp-looking 12lbs. Back with O'Donnell as well and Heffernan booked from a decent-looking draw.

In these sort of races I'd far rather be having a speculative punt at 20's than having a decent bet on something towards the front of the market. Looks a card to treat with caution on the whole.

Decent chance -the runner-up from his Oldcastle Maiden won NTO and they were 20 clear of the third (runner-up NTO), disappointed he didn't do better LTO though in a winners race.

Would be Some Run for me - took an age to break his Maiden but did so at Oldcastle in March and then went on to win an Open at Tattersalls Farm from the very useful Nedzer's Return. I've no idea how good Jill Gerraghty is compared to her sister Holly who's been riding him in points recently but he front runs which should come in handy round here and he was running well enough in a Handicap hurdle when running out 3 out at this meeting 3 years ago. If he were mine he'd be back in a handicap hurdle over 2m 6f+ and would be punted but he's worth a bet IMO at a best priced 10/1

The favourite (Mister Philson) needs further IMO and has jumping issues whilst the other fancied and well backed runner Russian Regent won a 3 runner Confined Hunts race LTO which wasn't a great race so can only assume he's been lined up for this.

Right Strategy was stopped in his tracks the last day and made up about thirty lenghts late - no world beater but 20/1 is probably on the large side in a very mediocre looking race..

Probably not this weekend but we should definitely go on the **** in the next few weeks.
