I don't tend to buy whole chickens but chicken breasts, often the "economy" brands and they taste great.
Perhaps that is the other chickens they have eaten in their battery cages

This is a consequence of the Animal Health Act 1981 . The logic is that it encourages people to report disease rather than hide them.

Still ,sticks in the craw rather considering the breaches of biosecurity.

It is less than £4 a bird. Bearing in mind that Bernard can wring several hundred nuggets out of one creature, before he even gets to the meat, it is not a great deal.

It's a drop in the ocean relative to his annual turnover. It would be nice to think he might donate it to charity.

It's a fecking disgrace and jeopardises genuine hardship cases of compensation because the Great British Public will, quite rightly, see it as a handout and waste of tax payer's money.

I wonder which Government (or Opposition Shadow) Minister Matthews has in his pocket....

He is entitled to the compensation under the Animal Health Act 1981 . It was apparently a policy decision by the Thatcher govt and not dissented from since that on a balance of evils paying compensation to the affected if it encourages disclosure rather than cover up is in the general interest of farmers and agriculture. Sickening as it is in this case I understand the policy reasons.

What is disappointing is that it seems he isn't going to be prosecuted .

Any reason why he isn't, Ardross? Other big businesses draw fines and judicial retribution, so why not Mr Bootiful?
