Thought it would be worth it's own thread whilst the meeting is on.

Neither Telescope or Mars have been declared for the Dante taking some of the gloss off the race; it is still an interesting heat nonetheless. On Newmarket form you'd probably expect Greatwood to reverse placings with Windhoek but the latter is very progressive and is likely to be supplemented for the Derby if he runs well. Ghurair isn't far behind either so there may not be much between the three which makes Indian Chief the interesting lurker as I can't have Trading leather (very weak for the derby) or Secret Number (stable form). Indian Chief won his maiden very well after finishing second to Loch Garman on debut; given normal improvement for O'Brien's 2yo and you've got a fair idea where you stand. I think he'll improve for better ground.

Market looks about right and you can get 11/8 dutching Indian Chief and Windhoek, the latter looking to have improved to me at Newmarket despite still running green. I can't split em.

Fallon is bullish as usual, this time about his chances on Society Rock: http://www.racingpost.com/news/hors...on/1268773/top/#newsArchiveTabs=last7DaysNews

Tend to agree with him although I can't get a handle on Tickled Pink. On breeding she could be a Group 1 winner but seemed to take time to come to herself. Cecil had supplemented her as well I think? Difficult race but a good field.

Haven't looked at much else in detail.

What are people's fancies?

According to the BBC Look North forecast this evening there will be "prolonged and heavy" rain throughout tonight and the whole of tomorrow morning in the area. Mince looks a likely non-runner tomorrow and Trading Leather likewise on Thursday but there'll likely be plenty of others too which is a great shame.

Two For Two in the mile handicap on Thursday looks good to me. O'Meara has worked his magic on him and he was unlucky last time. Problem is: everyone saw it.

Punting is likely to be difficult over the three days.

I like Windhoek and id like to see him win the Dante but wouldn't he have transferred to Godolphin over the winter if he was really special?

Mince has it to do against high class colts imo, and Tickled Pink probably needs faster ground to be at her best.
Society Rock has the form and loves the soft, but not many win this with the gp1 penalty. so I'll take my chances with e.w.Hawkeyethenoo (16/1 - 1/4 odds first 4). Course & ground suit admirably, and would have won the Quipco sprint (a gp1 in all but name) with a better draw.

you a Look North viewer too Gus?...have you heard about Krista?

If the rain comes Gordon Lord Byron is well worth an each way tickle in the sprint. 10/1 and Bet365 are paying four places.

Reet , you beat me to it in Hawkeyethenoo , who has a good draw. Loaded up on that- worth noting that Ladbrokes wouldn't touch and see their price. Maarek is the one that will benefit from softer than forecast conditions.
Picking on the fast race thread I backed Robot Boy who was run off his feet in that race. Over a furlong further and lesser pace could well deliver in the 5.00.

Something to do with her substantial salary? All I really know is she's not presenting any more. It's like those May Day parades in Moscow during the Cold War when Kremlinologists would note the disappearance of some party apparatchik from the array of bigwigs and speculate what it all meant.

I backed the second (Nocturn) in the 6f handicap today and will be putting the horse down as one to follow. Got done by a late closer on the other side of the track who I think he saw late and there looked to be loads left in the tank as he picked up again when the winner came by and he was in front again 100yds after the line. Front two pulled away in the last furlong from some solid horses so looks decent form to me and will be interested in what the handicapper does or if he turns out again quickly (has an entry at Newbury on 18th).

RP comments read "Raced wide, always prominent, close up halfway, led well over 1f out, ridden entering final furlong, headed and no extra last 75yds (op 7/1)"

I think he had plenty left.

First race tomorrow looks full of rogues and I think one of the easterby clan may have the winner at q decent price. Ancient cross and hazelrigg look well handicapped given previous course and distance exploits and right at the bottom last bid could out run its odds at the bottom. French horse in the second looks a dead cert and I'm piling in.

Fahey is saying parboldy could be his best two year old and given he's had at least three debutant winners in recent days could be another banker....hopefully....

Jamaican Bolt (1.45) ran 2nd to Jack Dexter in a better race than this last backend, then travelled all over a decent field at Donny on his reappearance, just failing to last home.
The drop back to 5f will suit perfectly.
Secret Number had a nightmare run in the UAE Derby, yet finished like much the best horse in the race, and ought to have the beating of a mainly 2nd division field for the Dante.

I like him and Ghurair. The AOB/Bolger colts are both way too short now.

winner there was first horse off the bridle, and won well, beating some good ones. If this was from a top stable, they would be raving about the performance.

I agree - no fluke about it judging by the gallop they went - at 25-1 ew Libertarian looks overpriced .

Ancient cross and the french one oblige, hoping Parboldy doesn't let me down now...the pockets are filling up nicely...

I think I am going to give myself a Kaboom!!!

Three from three races today! Albeit I did back Hazelrigg and Last bid in the first which tanked.

I know the weather is turning against Dark Ranger but I still think it might do the business so am going in each way with some of my winnings.

Rail will be moved out 3 metres from 9f to entrance to home straight to give fresh ground. Will add 7 yds to official distances tomorrow (Friday)

The first 5 finished in a heap. As the price of the winner suggests,it was a p*ss-poor Derby Trial.

Not much of a price, but Sir John Hawkwood (2.15) should be suited by the step up in trip and ought to win this cosily.
Dutch Masterpiece (3.50) for a Ryan Moore double.

The distance covering the first five is relevant to assessing the merits or otherwise of the Dante form but the price of the winner is a complete red herring.

I think this and the other trials tell us Kingsbarns would have pissed the Derby. In his absence Libertarian should run in the Derby he could be placed.
