Dante Meeting

Agree that Dutch Masterpiece is almost good enough to put on the will win thread, I'll also be backing Awake my Soul today which should have a good chance.

I'm also sticking with my Easterby theme, Crackentorp will have been aimed at this and after Bollin Greta on Wednesday running close after running like a pig in previous races this season I'm hoping Crackentorp will do the same. Course and distance winners proved yesterday they are worth sticking with and looks like ground should be softish side of good again today. I'm taking on SJH as I think that run at Chester may have taken a bit out of him.

For the first time in years I think I'm not going today and I am also not going to back anything in the Yorkshire cup. French horse is a bit of an unknown quantity although Joshua Tree really seems to be the quality horse in the race. Can't decide and may just have a speculative each way bet on Glen's Diamond

I'm treading warily today.

Mark Johnston's German import Oriental Fox is a big drifter this morning (Crackentorp's race) but it hasn't put me off. I'm wondering if the drift is down to the softer ground but, being a Lomitas, I'd expect it to improve for a bit of give. It's also been gelded since last season and ran respectably enough on its recent first run for the yard.

Saptapadi is 10lbs lower than when unlucky in the Ebor and returns from a spell in Australia. 5/1 place-only seems fair enough, as does the same price p/o about Crackentorp who could well make a sudden return to form here.

I've also gone with Joshua Tree (in the absence of the favourite) and doubled it with OF but I don't feel confident about either; I just can't see anything else in either race I could fancy any more strongly. That's how duff today's fare is.

I'm pretty sure I heard channon say last year that Orpha was as good as he had ever trained, and threw it straight into a group 1 after winning a maiden. Will keep the faith today.

Oriental Fox ran well but wasn't given a hard race (being prepped for something bigger?) while Crackentorp went too soon but the one that really annoyed me was Saptapadi. It was obviously not an over-fast pace yet he was held up stone last before making significant headway to get into the place money only to be run out of it late on as those exertions told. That was as bad a piece of riding as Turner on The Lark at Newbury 10 minutes earlier. I'll be rating Saptapadi much better than the bare form.

I don't think that's at all out of the question. I do think that his Leger price - 16s with Ladbrokes and Stan James - is plain wrong and very generous indeed.

Yes looks generous for the Leger. He'll have trouble going the Derby pace but could possibly run on for a place.
