My selection method is centred on trainers in form with various caveats.

Normally I have a long list of 12 to 15 possible bets which usually ends up with 2 or 3 bets.

Recently the long list has shortened considerably and I have been struggling to find any bets at all.

I’m having trouble stopping myself from stretching the rules!!

Kind of related, Walsworth, but this season, as soon as I think a yard is coming into, or is in form, all of a sudden they're not again.
I'm also experiencing a roller coaster experience with results this season, rather than bad luck or seconditis runs, which at least keeps my confidence levels up a bit. Instead, I'm feeling more like a pin sticker and I'm not really getting anywhere. Up and down like a brides nightie.
If I didn't have a list of noted runners, I'd be throwing the towel in until the 2027 season (when I retire again).

Walsworth, it's very rare I'm lost for words. That could be the most random, unexpected post I've ever seen on a horse racing forum and I've been responsible for a few of those myself. But it made me smile so thank you.

Spock definitely used a data model - he was the type.

Kirk surely bet by instinct - and was ready to be counter intuitive when needs be - while I reckon Scotty was a dreadful punter (especially after a wee dram) and regularly did the lot.

Just to show I haven't got it in exclusively for "Time Lords," looking for trainers coming into form is another factor far too many people are looking at nowadays and it's something else that IMO yields less overall value than it used to.

If you privately find a factor and no one is talking about it on: ITV Racing, RacingUK, ATR, in the RP and on social media, keep your mouth SHUT about it and milk it for as long as you can (which will be until the data modellers cotton on to it).

And if it's something that can't be modelled - PENSION FUND! - take the priceless secret to the grave with you! 😂

So be the horse and watch the jockey? :)

Isn't that what people did before the number crunchers? It's all swings and roundabouts imo.
I honestly don't think it matters.

In 2023 I never watched any replays (think 1 the whole season). I did watch my horse run the following day if I had a bet, but that's all. Never took notes. Did very well for the few months I was active.

2024 I watched tons of replays and took notes, then a quick consideration on if I should bet or not when they were entered (that actually made results worse, annoyingly). Again, did very well.

I had longer losing runs in 2024, but the odds were bigger.

Put in the time (in an efficient manner) and reap the rewards. No shortcuts.
