Sanctuaire is seriously overrated imo, and won't find Kempton near as suitable as Sandown for his tearaway tactics. The ground will also test his suspect stamina, and he has to be taken on at today's prices.
Wishfull Thinking won well lto, but didn't beat much, and the 2nd in that race subsequently wasn't sighted behind his main opposition in this race. Though he ran 2nd to Finian's Rainbow in this last year, there were modest horses close behind him, and he isn't really a 2 miler.
Kumbeshwar was also flattered to beat Sanctuaire lto, and is probably rated a little too highly because of it, but still maintained his improving profile, and - receiving 4lbs, and on this ground - ought to have enough in hand to confirm it. Whatever happens, I'd expect him to confirm their current prices owe more to hype than substance.

I agree about Sanctuaire, but WT has nearly a stone on Kumbeshwar, and is a cracking bet here. Ran well lot, ran well here last year, and stable in good form.

Nicholls doesn't seem too bullish about Sanctuaire in his Betfair column and I can see him underperforming today.

Agree about Wishful Thinking being a better horse than Kumbeshwar.

Sanctuaire as last time will underperform

July - December = 53f38553
Jan - July = 11371P111

bit of a no brainer to lay him imo

lay of the week would have thought

Agree with everything said above and took the 5/2 about Wishful Thinking last night. I do think Sanctuaire is a decent horse but it's always been stated he needs time between his races and the original plan was Tingle Creek then Cheltenham. I just can't see him being at his best 3 weeks after such a hard race and giving weight away all round the 5/4 represents terrible value in my opinion. Wishful Thinking seems to have got his jumping back together this year and will act on the ground.

The Desert Orchid looks like a race where all of them should lose. It's a complete hound-fest, and I'll be having the price of a pack of snouts on Idarah at 33/1.

Looking back at the day when Hobbs had us wondering which was the best between Captain Chris and Wishful thinking it's hard to believe just how disappointing Wishful Thinking has been.

He's 1 from 9 and you guys are willing to trust him over Sanctuaire. It's a the pot calling the kettle black IMO

The fact he might be a better horse than Kumbashwar is totally irrelevant. The only reason he got anywhere near Sanctuaire is because he crossed horses with maybe the best chaser any of us are ever likely to see which took a helluva toll on the horse.

The one worry I have is with Big Bucks sidelined PN is getting a bit desperate for winners and he might not be over his last race as DOM states.

However I'm sticking with him as I still think he'll get away from these and force Wishful Thinking into some shoddy jumping and I doubt if Kumbashwar will be sighted.

wishful thinking is fit and ready though Tanlic..Sanctuaire won't be is the difference..S folded easily last time and was beaten by an inferior horse late on..today he is hardly going to be ready to win imo...again backed up by his past record of thriving in the new year

i would rather have no bet than throw it at Sanctuaire today..the time to back him is next time out..when his price will be lots better than today

I reckon if the race doesn't go to form His Excellency will get in the first two for e/w purposes. Didn't quite see out the trip at Cheltenham last time and didn't seem to like the track either. He's upped in grade here but may adapt to Kempton quite well.

Sanctuaire's form when conditions suit doesn't suggest a hound to me...many horses look like dogs when you look at their form when not suited by conditions

WT is far from a hound. Inconsistent, yes, highly tried, yes, perhaps not run over right trip but not in any way a hound.

What a strange race that was. Thought Ruby had gone off way too quick early on and that looked to be playing itself out on the turn from home. And then...

I'd like to think it was Ruby being ultra-canny but would he really have had himself getting uncomfortably stuck on the inside on the home turn if he knew he had plenty more under him?
