Desert Orchid Chase

Sanctuaire's a very talented dog who's head was going one way while his legs were going the other and was all for spitting out the dummy before the home turn. Ruby was having none of it and just kept after him and got him going again.

No doubt about it Ruby has a brilliant pair of hands and can kid them better than most but I don't know if I'd go as far as say it was brilliant.........realistically he must have had a stone in hand of that lot and once he got going again it was easy.

Wishful Thinking flattered to deceive yet again he's even less trustworthy than the winner. Maybe it is a breathing problem who knows? but whatever it is they've had a very long time to sort it out and haven't. When they go as long as he has throwing races away I tend to think it's in their heads.

Ruby rode Sanctuaire entirely differently to his previous races and, off a steady pace (similar time to Simonsig, who strolled around the whole way) had plenty left when they came to challenge him. Kumbeshwar, who had made ground on him in a quicker run race, was left for dead, and Wishfull Thinking (who's never been a 2 miler, despite all the efforts to make him one) was allowed home in his own time, once the proper 2 milers had passed him.
Outstanding tactical ride imo, and opens up any number of possibilities now that Sanctuaire has proven he's not just a one-trick pony. Certainly a better horse than I gave him credit for, now he shown previously unrevealed versatility.
Even Grassy might think so: one day.

Don't mean to upset you Reet but it turns out it was no more tactical than flying in the air.

When Paul Nichols spoke to Ruby after the race Ruby told him the horse all but pulled himself up and he thought the horse was beat. Then when he turned into the straight he just took off again off his own accord.

So basically what we thought we saw isn't what happened at all and Ruby had a lot less to do with that the horse did..........but I was closer than you:lol:

I wonder if PN will actually have another crack at Sprinter Sacre in the QMCC. The way he was talking today after the race he's looking at all the other options as he feels Sprinter Sacre is near on unbeatable. At least if he does go it will create a little bit of interest because as far as I can make out there's nothing left worth talking about.

I watched Sizing Europe go head to head with Ruby Light today and the latter out jumped him at nearly every fence but Sizing Europe had just enough speed to get back on terms shortly after each fence. In the end Sizing Europe won flat out by a couple of lengths but he'd need to jumps a whole lot better at Cheltneham to keep tabs on Sprinter Sacre who would make Ruby Light look slow.. It could be Sizing Europe's not quite as fast as he was and if that is the case he has no chance of even giving him a race let alone beating the Henderson superstar

At least if Sanctuaire bombs off in front he might give Sprinter Sacre something to think about for the fist mile.

He was 6 seconds faster.............. going to post

I was watching Simonsig win again and the race was a joke to be honest which told us nothing.

I suspect Ruby said to Barry you go on by 10 lengths and I'll follow you round.........whatever!!!! but Ruby never tried at any point to close up or go with him and was only there for the beer.

Can't say I blame them as Hinterland has his limits and he wouldn't want to be finishing too close for handicapping reasons but it's still a bit annoying to watch a top jockey make a mockery of the rules.

I heard one commentator comparing him to Sprinter Sacre DUH!!!! Could he run in a real race first came to mind

How Simonsig will react to another good horse like Overturn or that Irish horse with the funny name eyeballing him is anyone's guess but his price for a horse who has had no more than two easy schooling sessions in public is terribly short
