Diary of a fool

I know I'm supposedly concentrating on the All weather and landing big paydays but I couldn't help but cast an eye over the WH hurdle at the weekend and something struck me. Josh the Boss generally a 33/1 shot flopped last time at Haydock on Betfair Chase day on a day where the ground rapidly changed from gd-sft on Tellwrights stick in the morning to quagmire by the time the Betfair chase went off not sure whether one bad run is forgivable in those circumstances you can make your own minds up on that, but prior to that Josh the Boss's silver trophy victory must be one of the best franked pieces of form of the season.

Chepstow silver trophy hurdle

1st Josh the Boss
2nd Doyen Quest went up 3lb for his 2nd place then won easily next time out and raised another 10lb
3rd Take no chances won a mares race next time out ran 3rd in another race a nk behind Joyeuse conceding 18lb and then beat Kargese in a grd2 mares
4th Lowry's bar ran off a mark of 131 here then went chasing two 2nds and two wins in 4 novice chases one of the 2nds to recent Cheltenham scorer Jagwar and is now off a Chase rating of 148
5th Patriotik has admittedly only been raised one 1lb since for a 2nd place but may be well handicapped himself as he was sandwiched between 2 subsequent winners Red dirt Devil (big Sandown handicap) and Uncle Bert.
6th Tighten our belts ran off 126 then went Chasing won it's next 2 up to a mark of 140
7th Titan Discovery one run since won went up 6lb

There are a few further back that have either won or run well since but so far back this day that they can't really be considered to have run any sort of race. And yes some of these have gone chasing and some of them have run over different trips many reasons for improvement but overall its a fairly big coincidence for them all to have done so well since for it not to be a really solid piece of form and a 7lb rise considering he'd strung this lot out like the washing that day seems fair enough to say the least. Also Newbury is a track that can favour front runners and he could take some pegging back as he's been campaigned over further and he's still only had 8 runs over timber so he's still open to improvement. I could forgive him a run at Haydock on bad ground if I was sure it wouldn't just be as bad here. Newbury are saying soft and the weather forecast looks dry after Tuesday which might just make it gd-sft by the day. However, they must of borrowed Tellwrights stick as it's reading 3.8 on the hurdle course which is around six inches deeper than heavy so who knows? but if it were to dry out a bit I reckon he'd be a good bet.
