The cost of a divorce without any legal involvement rose on Jan 4th to £ 210 from £ 180.

In my day it was a matter of course to court, become engaged and then when we had saved enough, get married.

Now a couple meet, shack up next day and the girl becomes pregnant within weeks.

Is the bit of paper ( marriage certificate) now obsolete ?
