I thought it was on tonight but I'm not seeing it in my guide.

Any ideas which channel and what time?

TIA.

Oh I must watch it, especially as I had 2 quid each way on him when he won the Welsh National.

Really good film except Philip Hobbs isn’t portrayed very well. Couldn’t be further from the truth as he’s one of the nicest guys in racing.

Watched it this evening with Mrs O. She's never sat through Seabiscuit or Secretariat with me so it was a surprise when she suggested catching up on it.

She was very much of the same frame of mind as G-G et al are on here when their loved ones run, saying how she'd be a basket case if she was close to a horse.

She also felt PH wasn't at all badly portrayed and I have to agree. His character was a relatively small part in the film.

There was obviously some cinematic licence in the portrayal of the story but it was, after all, a film.

I have it recorded. Will I watch it again? Maybe. If I'm at home on my own with a couple of hours to spare, and then I'll probably delete it.

It was a decent enough watch but not in the same league as Seabiscuit, which is a truly beautiful film.

I must watch Seabiscuit again. And re read the book. I seem to remember leaving the cinema in tears even though I was determined not to.

The Seabiscuit book was excellent but I haven't seen the film.

Like all these films, the racing scenes are a bit contrived (aimed, presumably at the non-racing audiences) but the rest of the film is utterly beautiful visually.

The book Seabiscuit is really a parable on the great depression, the horse as vehicle for the story. The film is more horse-cenric and in fairness, I thought that Spiderman rode him beautifully.

.

Could totally relate to the ' come on my baby boy' although I was known to say it seriously louder - the scream when he won from Jan was totally me, and the tears- they were far calmer!
Thinking must be the film but wouldn't believe they didn't go and see him/be on the phone twice a day asking how he was after the injury and know nothing until he was back in training, and likewise trainer would have been in touch more often but dramatic license. If that had have been me I would have been sleeping by the door to his box.
Enjoyed it though, was good fun.

I’m amazed that no-one has ever thought to make a film about Red Rum. When you analyse it, it’s the most incredible story of a Flat horse who dead heated in his first race, got ridden by no less than Lester Piggott on the Flat, ends up with a car salesman who trains his horses on the beach. The horse is plagued with foot problems which actually benefit from the seaside training regime. He ends up with the most incredible fairytale in racing and is credited for saving the failing Grand National.

And then in retirement became a national celebrity (before it was a “thing”) opening supermarkets, betting shops, switching on Blackpool Illuminations. And who can forget his appearance on SPOTY? The moment he picks up his lungs when he hears Tommy Stack talking via video link from hospital was more than tear-jerking!

Agree would be a great film but wondering if someone somewhere has thought of it but think it wouldn't make a commercial success as the story is quite well known and so wouldn't get bums on seats maybe? Not sure how much they spent on Dream Alliance but think it wouldn't have had a huge appeal outside of the UK.

Tiger Roll movie would be in the Red Rum mould also with Ml O'Leary added.
Tiger's breeder has a fascinating back story to boot.
Add in Davy Russell's rehabilitation the day the sun came out after days of fog and confusion and you have box office.
Speilberg's fax number anyone ?

How do they cover the 3 years of jobbing between the Triumph hurdle and the 4 miler?

Tiger Roll, the wilderness years !
Identity crisis, roaming the single gelding bars, drug addiction, nightmares of Gordon taking a phone call astride his moribund body ..... oops , supposed to be a family film.
Creosote sniffing, ulcers , having that Tom Cruise mid film crisis; maybe Tom could act as the horse; he is the right size after all.

 Excellent! Perhaps we should start writing the script and get everyone to contribute.

A few years ago when a former member formed Atacanta (when this forum was a bit troubled), we had a brilliant thread going based on a British Blue cow of Songsheets winning the Gold Cup I think. It starred Clementine the cow and Nick Porkles her trainer. I think she beat Denman. Krizon was a hilarious contributor for those of you who remember her.

I know it's daft to be bothered by inaccuracies or omissions but they did in this film which I think would have been better served as a sort of three part series. He ran in Black Jack Ketchum's Spa Hurdle which was no showed and they went straight from his injury to the Welsh Nash - no mention of his Hennessy second to Denman. 5/10 tops.

I agree, it was more about the owners and the local community rather than the horse

On the lack of racing footage, it was probably more difficult to shoot NH racing with the risk of them jumping obstacles, would have been difficult getting enough horses and their owners to do it i reckon

Seabiscuit is going to take some topping isn't it?
