If it passes the planned inspection at 730 I could see The Listener being very short maybe even odds on.I certainly wont be backing him.
Michael o Brien had 2 winners on the flat at Dundalk this week and obviously the stable is in some kind of form.Forget The Past is decent enough and looks a good each way bet to me.

He's 2.32 right now but I'm sure he was shorter earlier [It's just past midnight]

Next is Mansony 5.7 and nothing else shorter than Forget The Past at 8

Ground could make this very interesting,

Probably shouldn't be good enough to win but there are worse each way bets than Mister Top Notch @20's

Just hope the meeting goes ahead...cracking beginners chase as well

Knocknabooly, Herons Flight and Thyne Again interesting recruits....while Fingeronthepulse and Notre Pere have already shown initial promise.

I think The Listener will win in a canter if the meeting goes ahead. Hi Cloy next best. I cant think of any horse that jumps better out of heavy ground. And with 3m seemingly stretching his stamina, I can see him making all, and no one getting near him. 7/4 that was available earlier in the week would be nice, but I think he deserves to be even money.

Must be seriously doubtful that tommorrow's card will go ahead..

Hope it does, as it look's a decent one..

Would tend to agree with Garney's view of the John Durcan.. can't see past The Listener.. I always thought Fitzgerald said Mister Top Notch would do better on better ground Bobby? That Grade 1 he won last year was the probably the weakest Grade 1 of a forgettable year on the novice chasing front..

The course has passed inspection this morning.. the meeting goes ahead.
Info source turf club line 8.20am this morn.

Fair point trackside...but he's at least stayed a testing 2m 5 furlongs before on this kind of ground and if the Listener makes this a true run race then it might open the door for something to run on into a place.....I'd even look at Father Matt as a place proposition but admit that maybe it's stretching it to search too far beyond the principles,

Ground didn't look too bad in that novice there but we'll see how the chase course is...

Suppose so Bobbyjo..

The Listener should prove different class today.. no excuses whatsover..

Can't see Mansony staying in these conditions either..

The Listener hasn't got masses in hand though Trackside..and a few questions to answer.

looks too short for me...horse has been a disappointment in my mind.

Would agree that Forget The Past should be able to get in the frame, but I'm surprised The Listener is as big as Evens. For a horse who can put them to the sword on ground like this, and not have to worry about fading like he did in the Irish Hennessy, he really should win.

Impressive - and well done again to the Alners for campaigning this horse so shrewdly in Ireland.

If only it was always that straightforward.

I dont think Tom Segal's finest moment was today when he said

"While he is a free-going sort, his jumping is sure to be pressurised back at 2m4f, and that has been his Achilles heel in the past. "

Cheers EC, didn't back him though.. too ropey to go smashing in to at short prices..

Jumped really impressively (apart from two out) and came away from them really easily..

Mansony didn't stay but this really was a poor field.. just goes to show the poor state of the Irish staying chasing division at the moment without the big two..

He will scuttle back to Blighty if Denman goes for the Lexus
And take on kauto, Exotic Dancer etc in the King George.

I think second at worst in the Lexus would keep him here. I hope so.

I would have thought the Lexus, or maybe even The Rowland Meyrick with topweight? How much is that worth these days ? But with only 2 weeks to Christmas its possible that they will not bother with either.

Alner's assistant trainer:

"Bring on Denman," he added. "I can't think of another horse in England or Ireland I'd rather take him on with.

"I'm not saying we'll beat him but it'll be soft ground and it'll be interesting.

"It's nice to see bits of improvement in him and as long as he keeps improving he should go a fair way."

Proper attitude

On another note, that beginners chase turned out to be absolute carnage,

But there's no doubt who the horse to take out of that race is - Thyne Again

On a first run back after a long break, he found trouble everywhere...almost brought down at the first...almost brought down four from home and then, despite all that, he was travelling strongest when finally brought down at the second last

Will be winning very, very soon and I'd take him to beat all of those again

[and I'm hurting because I had a decent bet]

Very good point Bobbyjo. Def one for the notebook.

As for The Listener I'd back him in a staying chase against anything inc Denman in a real bog. Couldn't see btw why some of you thought Mansony wouldn't stay - he looked the obvious FCT to me :P on his record... Just as Denman and TL will be in the Lexus! I only do forecasts in races with these v short favourites, today's paid 10.31 which is decent odds

By the way, Hedgehunter was PU when tailed off, turns out with a broken blood vessel - wonder if he will now be retired? - do hope so, he's done his work
