I note that Great Heavens isn't in the Yorkshire Oaks. Presumably she heads straight to the Leger. I think she'll stay and win.

The Nunthorpe looks a good race for a change if Bated Breath, Sole Power and Ortensia take part. The latter should be favourite. I'm going on the Friday.

Highlight of the meeting (Frankel apart) hopefully will be Newfangled in the Lowther.

Ceiling Kitty is a huge price in the Nunthorpe at 20s. She's won at the track, ran a cracking time at Ascot and would have won by further if it wasn't for wandering about at the end. She carries next to no weight and with the usual suspects lining up in the sprints, I'm always keen to chance my arm on a different type in these races. Agree that Ortensia should be clear favourite though.

I might go on the Wednesday but am undecided.

Great Heavens was never put in the Yorkshire Oaks, entries closed before she won the Lancashire version. With yard having The Fugue who connections insist wants firmish ground, the race is likely to be targeted by her unless it it testing, in which case Great Heavens could be supplemented, like she was in Ireland.

Whether it's Main Sequence is a Group 2 horse against Group 3 animals, or a Group 1 horse against Group 2 animals, he looks a good thing in the Voltigeur to me. Be very surprised if any of these could beat him if he runs to the same level he did in the Derby. Very unlucky in France since.

Have had a tiny bit on him for the Arc too in case he wins well enough to convince them that route is better for him than a non-staying defeat in the Leger.

That will be a fascinating market on the day. Thomas Chippendale, Noble Mission, Encke and Shantaram are all handled by bigger names but lack the form Main Sequence has. He might not even be favourite.

I think Thomas Chippendale benefited to some degree from Noble Mission and Thought Worthy softening each other up at Ascot. Shantaram, I just don't see how he can reverse the form from Lingfield, whilst he also has to prove he's quite as good as that on turf too.

Shantaram could be the lay of the century in that race if he's as overbet as I think he'll be. The Bahrain Trophy was worse than rancid. In the good old days they'd have aimed him at the Ebor with a feather weight.

Weather forecast for York is reasonable, not supposed to be much rain at all. This will suit the likes of Ortensia and The Fugue, but also Sherata who looks overpriced at 10/3 for the Yorkshire Oaks.

Last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe runner-up Shareta will head over to York next week for the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre said: "She will run at York. I think it's the right race for the filly. She ran well in the Arc when there was a lot of pace and she stays very well. This looks the best race for her."

The handler hopes for quick conditions at the Knavesmire after his filly has performed with credit on a testing surface at Saint-Cloud on her last two starts.

"She's much better on firm ground. Soft is no good for her. Christophe Lemaire will come over to ride. She ran behind Meandre last time and the ground was too soft for her. She had to make the pace and that was not the best for her.

"In the Arc last year we had a very fast pace and they never gave a chance for the other horses to go easily. They galloped all the way and it was perfect for my filly and the ground was very firm."

I'm off to York tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Some really promising types contest the Acomb. I'll side with Dundonnell but you couldn't be too confident. It could be a good day for Roger Charlton as both his runners, Zero Money and Rex Imperator, have good prospects in the opening sprint. I prefer the latter although James Doyle is on Zero Money. Trainer's on a long losing run on the Knavesmire, though.

Burning Thread could be the one in the first race. Been on the premises on most starts this season, gave weight to the majority horses who finished ahead of him on last two starts. Worth a go at 20/1.

Gamla,
Ceiling Kitty- 100% agree. Already on and hoping to build up a fair pot in the first two days to permit a substantial punt. For mainly sentimental reasons on will have a saver on Tangerine Trees.

Intrigued that HC felt it necessary to run Noble Mission just 9 days after Ascot, and Tom Queally viewed the run as educational.
That being the case, he really only has Main Sequence to beat.

Thought Worthy has absolutely no chance in the Leger. It's almost as if the pricks who draw up the odds don't actually watch horse races. They see that one has won a recognised trial and trim him accordingly.

Poor call from Simon Holt in the Lowther. It was obvioous it was Newfangled was in trouble early.

crossbar again

have dutched Instance & Honeymead in the next..honeymead been kept away from 7f until its mark has dropped..Instance ran well against the pace last time..looks laid out for this
