Epsom blows its top...

Why is it patronising? How can the simple laws of physics patronise anyone? A high-sided vehicle is a dead cert for a pushover in high winds, whereas you can see even the smallest, tallest, fattest, or thinnest person still striving, even in hurricanes, to get to the Debenhams sale or William Hill's emporium of chance. Thus, your dear mother - as I said, regardless of age - is far more capable of not being blown over in high winds than a high-sided lorry. Animalia can adapt to the situation, Brucie, whereas solid masses cannot - hence the Duchess's stand loses a bit of its tiara today, while local pooches are not hurled gaily over Ewell.

Horseboxes constitute "high sided vehicles" which are generally the first things warned not to travel in high winds.

As for Ayr not abandonning until the PA system broke it's just like most racecourses - wanting to get bums on seats and not giving a hoot about anyone who has to get there (from the stable staff and horses to bar staff, tote staff, bookmakers, paying punters etc).

It's not just Epsom that's in trouble - from what a friends told me Saints brand new rugby ground Langtree Park (and I mean brand new - never been played in) is in trouble too!!

Oooh, Martin, you heartless cynic! And one so young! Fact is, if they could've got one race off, they wouldn't have to refund customers' monies, although they will still have to pay all the staff who managed to stagger in. Now they have to make full refunds and pay whoever got onsite.
