Fairyhouse and Irish National

Stumptown has got into the Nash off 134. Really surprised to be honest and he has to be of major interest given that he ran a smasher in the Kim Muir off 135 and I feel he might be better on a right handed track judging by his jumping at Sandown.

Confirmed runner for Irish Nash:

Royale Pagaille
Espanito Bello
Busselton
I Am Maximus
Chemical Energy
The Goffer
Thedevilscoachman
Ash Tree Meadow
Fire Attack
Max Flamingo
Dolcita
Lieutenant Command
Tenzing
Panda Boy
Amirite
Angels Dawn
Fairyhill Run
Punitive
Real Steel
Defi Bleu
Birchdale
Champagne Platinum
Farceur Du Large
Now Where Or When
Donkey Years
Gevrey
Milan Native
Must Be Obeyed
Stumptown
Fakeira

I'm actually drawn to Royalle Pagaille the top rated and weighted horse as he will love soft ground. Now Where Or When is a horse I like a lot but I am unsure if he will stay.

I feel totally clueless really but my main bet will be Royalle Pagaille E/W with a saver on Now Where Or When.

Good luck to anyone having a flutter.

I like the look of The Flier Begley in the 3.15. He has run well enough in maiden hurdles when often staying on stoutly to make me think he may have been lined up for a valuable handicap hurdle like this. At 16/1 or thereabouts I want to keep The Flier Begley on my side. He is 3lbs out of the weights but I am not too concerned about that as I still think he could be very well in today at the weights.

No surprise in the lack of interest when I look at the fireld for this.

This has got to be the biggest pile of shyte ever gathered to compete for a 1st prize of €270,000 in NH racing.

Tried to find something worth a bet but one looks worse than the next one............total waste of time and money IMO

Blood Destiny according to the betting was expected to give Lossiemouth a real fight in the Triumph.

Ran too bad to be true and I expect he will eat this lot for breakfast if back to his best.

My only bet at the meeting should really be in the odds on thread

Sentiments not far off what were going through my head when I was studying the race but once I collated the figures they're right up there with par.

There's an awful lot of novices in the field and I reckon that's why, on the face of it, it was a tough race to trawl through.

But it always ends up a race worth following.

For what it's worth, this was my conclusion after taking a few hours to work through it:

As ever, this is a hugely competitive renewal. For the last few years I’ve been favouring novices (first or second season) and can see one winning again. The hard bit is identifying which. Amirite (14/1), Panda Boy (10/1), Stumptown (9/1), along with many others certainly fit the bill but the market certainly hasn’t missed the ones I mention by name. For smaller stakes, Max Flamingo (28/1) in first time pieces is worth a pop, as is Ash Tree Meadow (33/1). Fairyhill Run (66/1) has to be a bet because of his rating and price and the claim will do his chances no harm either. I’ll probably make him the main bet. Royale Pagaille might be good enough just to outclass them all and I’ll cover all the bets with him at 20/1.

I was wondering what you thought about Royale Pagaille as I know you have been aware of his ability for a while.

So I'm a wee bit more confident now.

Royals Pagaille backed in to 12s. Hopefully it’ll be soft enough for him. I’m not sure I really understand what yielding ground means but yesterday’s times seemed to suggest it was riding slow enough

Keith Donoghue had terrible luck yesterday when his mount Mighty Potter RIP was fatally injured

Hopefully he can have a change of luck with Chemical Energy who could go close if reproducing his Cheltenham form.

Going to look at the race now. I’m in the depths of Northumberland and 5 days ago my iPad suddenly died. By sheer luck Argos were the only shop in Berwick that was open to buy a new one and my next door neighbour ( who is only here very rarely and is a soft wear engineer) came back for the weekend and he was able to set up the new iPad for me as I’m a complete technophobe! Still no Facebook or messenger but can at least access my WHill account now.
Quite like the look of Punitive and Gevrey and always have to back Defi.

Easy to say in the heat of the moment and having had a nice priced winner but that could be the greatest ride I have seen in 40 years of watching racing. Up there with Witchita Lineman.

I Am Maximus didn’t jump or travel with any fluency but Townend was absolute class.

Thanks DO

First, second and fourth first/second-season novices. The third a 'sleeper'.

Only return was stake refunded on the non-runner

If he comes out of that 100% Willie Mullins could have a nice problem to solve with Monksfish who was handled with TLC oozed class on his return

Once hailed as a future Gold Cup winner he has the envious job of keeping him and Gallopin Des Champs apart.

The 14/1 you took seemed short to me on what he achieved lately but someone new something and got it right.

Yes, the fact that PT ended up riding the horse had me looking again a few times but I decided I couldn't justify following the market.

Sometimes that kind of decision works for you, usually it doesn't so it was one of those I could let win without backing it [at the price].
