Favourite Actor

He said once "I play John Wayne in every picture regardless of the character, and I've been doing all right, haven't I?"

I have never seen that quote Graham but it fits in with my opinion and yes he did do okay just as Ken Roache has.
My idea of a good actor is the De Niro / Nicholson type who have the ability to adapt to a role.

Just been looking at J Wayne's career and I wonder if anyone made more films, the guy was a prolific worker. His name was oddly Marion ! and his nickname 'Duke' was after his Airedale dog.

John Wayne appeared in more films than anyone else in a leading role - 142. The total number of films in which he performed, including when uncredited, was 173. This is beaten by Christopher Lee who has - so far - acted in 224 films. They are both a long way behind Bollywood actor Adoor Bhasi, though. Before his death in 1990, Bhasi had been in 549 films!

If you count voices as well as being onscreen in person, then Mel Blanc, The man behind Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig had more movie actor credits to his name than anyone. Mel Blanc performed in 709 films, not including over 100 TV movies and video productions. He also had 81 uncredited voice parts in films.

Yes, although it was begrudged by many (less than 99% anyway) and some even thought it was a sympathy award as he was suffering from terminal cancer at the time.

Some good judges felt he was robbed of an oscar for his performance in The Searchers.

speaking of hopkins, Giancarlo Giannini at least deserves a favorable mention. his Inspector Pazzi in Hannibal is a great performance.

David Thewlis and George Clooney, ( both for their acting talents ;) !! ) Tom Hanks is very good too.

Of the old people - I like watching Dirk Bogarde ( is that how you spell it?? ) films - things like Tale of Two Cities were made by his acting. ( and the writing of course!! )
