Not to mention that just as you were doing really well & flying around the track, the car would spin off the track - arrgghh!! Great fun though.

I always got what I wanted. I got a pool table, XL2, Loads of lego, computer games. My fav game was Premier Manager for the Sega. The most addictive game ever.

My fav was a rifle that fired corks. My 2 brothers had one as well. One day my younger brother shot my older sister on the leg. She tried to wrestle the rifle off him. He cried "shoot her Tom". I took aim and let blast. Right in the eye I got her. Rifles were confiscated, never to see the light of day again.

Those potato pellet guns were fun too Tom. If someone got shot in the eye by one of those it reall hurt. And those "cap" guns. Do you remember them? Little bits of dynamite on a tape that fed through the gun so that the gun made a noise when you fired it. Ahhh.... those blissful memories. :D

Apart from my Hornby train and Dinky toy cars, my best presents were a Bayko building set (anyone else have one of these?), Meccano and the 1955 Wisden.

No you was really lucky there was 42 of us and we got a piece of used coal between the lot of us.
Luxury.

We were given half a handful of grass seed on Christmas Eve and we had tp plant it and wait for the harvest before we had anything to eat. We then shared it with the other seventeen Irish families in the encampment

You were given the grass seed? We had to do a paper and milk round and save a farthing a week to buy ours!

A paper round! You jammy sod. We were sent down the chimneys to to clean them using our nappies, which doubled as our bedsheets on the fabulous nights they let us sleep inside. That coal bunker was heaven!

Mr GG is flogging his Dinky cars on Ebay at the moment. They all look like a bit of scrap metal to me

Mr Potato Head - fantastic fun. I wish I'd kept him, as I'd still quite like making funny faces out of old spuds. Can't remember any games. Got given lots of Dinky low-loaders, Scammell trucks, graders, diggers, tractors, by my Dad, who I don't think ever cottoned on to the idea that in spite of the name, I really wasn't a boy. Wish I'd kept those, too, but for purely mercenary reasons.

A Rupert Annual every year - fab. Very magical and mystical it was too, and not a CGI in sight. Then mostly useful horsey things past age 13.

My Dad used to have a juble sale at his school every year. We got there early to help him get everything ready. That meant we got the pick of the toys. I got a Mr. Frosty (disappointing) and Hungry Hippos board game (great fun!!)
