Agree 100% with thisTatts or Club don't go near Best Mate.
We go in Tatts every year but it really depends on how you want to spend the afternoon. If you want to watch every race at course side near the bookies but also like to see the horses in the parade ring there's quite a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and no-one knows how the building work will affect pedestrian flow.
If you decide to go in Tatts and buy in advance, choose the print ticket at home option. For another option, some of our group buy from touts at the course and have never yet paid the 'on the day' price. They are Essex boys though.
I don't buy from touts, I got my tickets in November. These boys know the risks but they know their way around and their judgement has been sound up to now. There's a risk that tickets bought from touts have already been used, something the touts themselves mightn't even know. You should insist on them coming to the turnstile with you to make sure you get through.
A perch on the final straight in a balcony box with a free bar is The Only Way.
Please note that doing this for all four days of the Festival, will turn your pish into Kia-Ora by Saturday morning.
