Hughes reported to be taking another couple of weeks off as his specialist says although he is fit to ride that any fall could aggravate it and it is not worth taking the risk .

I know he won the championship after the Indian suspension debacle but Moore was injured that year . At this rate Moore could be well clear especially as he remains the Hannon's sub of choice . Anyone who took short prices about Hughes will be worrying .

Any outside candidates ?
 
Adam Kirby is likely to have a big season, he broke into the elite group of 150+ winners last season and hopefully some of the bigger trainers will give him a chance thus potentially increasing his quota of winners.

Martin Harley adn Danny Tudhope both hit the 100 winner mark last year and should improve as they learn more.

There are 4 youngsters that took my eye last season and perhaps one of these will be worth following this year.

Robert Tart - 3lb claimer who had 60+ wins in his first full season last year. Does very well when riding older horses for Jeremy Gask and Brian Ellison.

Andrew Mullen - well connected with a good strike rate on the all weather at Southwell. He rides for Michael Appleby and hit the 50 winner mark for the first time last season, after 11 years of trying. I don't think he will ever be one of the top jocks but will win his share of the lower races.

Jason Hart - the next top northern jockey? His 3lb claim won't last much longer judging by his recent results - great ride on 25/1 shot Barleycorn Lady at Newcastle. Won 7 of 11 when riding for Tim Walford last season.

Thomas Brown - up there with the best as far as strike rate is concerned. He desperately needs more bookings to break into the big time. Another youngster making a big name for himeslf on the all weather at Kempton and Lingfield. 40% strike rate with Ismail Mohamed and 21% with his main source of rides, Andrew Balding.

Finally, one I wanted to keep seperate from the above 4 is Oisin Murphy. Appeared on the scene last year and won just over £400k in his first season !! He seems to be just as comfortable riding on turf as with all weather and should be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
