Anyone play them?

They are really being slated in the media as causing addiction and violence.

Machines have never appealed to me but does anyone have positive things to say about them?

I don't play them, but I know people who do and some of them are certainly addicted, to the point of putting their wages in them. Admittedly they used to lose their wages on horses and dogs previously, but not so quickly.
There are also some unsavoury characters using my local Coral's now that were not seen before the machines were there, so I don't stay in the shop long.

Yes I have heard language from people using them too. Could imagine something kicking off if they thought you looked at them the wrong way

Certainly would not want to pick up a decent win with some of them watching me. Bloody long time since I had a decent win mind you!

A lot of fellas are banning themselves from their local bookies to stop themselves playing them...

They are banned in most parts of Ireland. In the 80s Dublin city centre was full of so called amusement arcades where these machines predominated.

Following a grass roots campaign Dublin City Council was the first to ban them, and most of the rest of the country followed soon after.

The evidence is that they are indeed addictive. The fact that betting shops in Britain where they are present derive around half of their turnover from them, even though their numbers are limited, testifies to this.
