Just for any of you who are interested in French racing a French journalist over here as started up a website in English providing reviews, previews and information on both flat and jump racing. Its only starting but looks interesting already(I occasionally report for them so have to say that!:p)

I was talking to IS about this a few months ago - iirc theres some rule where you have to have a bank of money to be able to have a horse in training over there - but the actual costs strike me as very good considering how much better the prize money is... there was a trainers site that went into it a bit and was very interesting - will see if Ive still got the link...

I have spoken to various trainers over the last while and the cost of training fees in Chantilly varies from around €60 to €80 per day, depending on the trainer.

There seems to be a growing trend of trainers going abroad at the moment, particularly for listed/group 3's in France; at least that's my impression. Anyone have any info on the number of British runners in France for say the last five years?

Interesting statement on that JJWard website:

LEASING is common practice in France and is a good way to 'try out' ownership without any initial investment. Horses can be taken on lease with the owner usually taking 20% of prize money as payment for the lease. Please contact us for further details.

Obviously there are still the training costs, but it would be interesting to see what horses were available.

Anyone seriously considering this venture could do worse than give Eoghan O'Neill a ring. He's based out there now.
