Good morning

Ever since Minsky joined David O’Meara’s yard last term, I’ve had the feeling that they’d have a ‘plan’ for him. Indeed, when I instigated a search for all my references to the horse in my blog, there were many. I particularly was drawn to these entries on July 6th this season:

I have to do Mirsky in the 3.35. Got 11/2 about him this morning. I had him marked down last season as a dark horse to keep an eye on and this may be the season where he puts it all together. I think he may still be ahead of the handicapper here and looks like he may be aimed at the Golden Mile later on.

I was delighted that Mirsky won, of course, but I think the performance was the thing; the win of the season, in my eyes; the way he cruised up and instantly put the race to bed. It really did cement the idea that The Golden Mile would be aa achievable target.

Last season I became convinced that they'd aim for the Cambridgeshire but it seems that the Mile is the call

*NB If you have an interest in all my past comments on the horse in my blogs, just go to 'search' at the top of the page. Enter 'Mirsky' in the top box and 'yorick' in the bottom box and all references will be shown

The draw is vital in this race, in all likelihood. A low draw and a horse that can lay up in a good position is the ideal. That Epsom win had Mirsky close to the pace and on the rail. In the Golden Mile, it’s crucial to lay up close, I think, and what happens in the first two furlongs will decide Mirsky’s fate. If he can break smartly and get a handy rails pitch from the lovely draw in four, It’s possible we may witness an Orbaan-style run, if you remember the race three years back.

Cloud cuckoo land, I’m sure, but I’ll be doing him whatever.

Mirsky - 2.30 Goodwood 25/1 Ew 5 places

My second main bet will be:

Lexington Blitz - Musselburgh 7.18 6/1 Ew

2 x Singles
Ew Double

Last night's win by Stormy Impact has payed a massive compliment to this one, I reckon. I'm not usually keen to back three year olds against their elders at this time of the year but in this case I'm prepared to make an exception. This is a class 4 handicap that's not all that great and makes that Epsom Dash form standout out like a beacon, in my opinion.

I shall be having a little Ew L15, too:

Zinc White Goodwood 1.20 6/1
Mirsky - Goodwood 2.30 25/1
What's Up Darling - Galway 5.30
Lexington Blitz - Musselburgh 7.18

Good luck

Can never fathom DO’M - he’s got five of them in the flippin’ race :what: GL.
Not any more, Mirsky is a non-runner. He was my initial thought, but moved on to Theoryofeverything (another O’Meara horse) and Afentiko.

I imagine O’Meara is happy people find him hard to fathom. I’ve always hoped Mirsky would have a crack on soft going, but he won’t be trying it today.

'Lame' according to the BHA.

Well, that's so disappointing. The lustre has left the race for me, I'm afraid.

Of course I'll watch and probably have a tiny Ew on Theoryofeverything.

Jason Hart galloped Align The Stars in July last year before he'd ever run and said he'll win the Ascot Gold Cup, and we're still bang on track. He still hasn't really raced over a relentless mile and six furlongs and I think an emphasis on stamina in the St Leger is really going to take him to the next level. It will take another step up for him to be competitive, but I have enough faith in him that it's a realistic aim. I think back to Subjectivist at the same part of his career and he went to the Leger and it was too sharp a test for him, but then he won a Group 1 in the Prix Royal Oak as a three-year-old - Charlie Johnston, trainer.

Given the above, I think a little ew on Align The Stars 1.20 is in order, too.

David O’Meara on Racing TV: Danny can ride whichever he wants.

Moments later, Danny on Racing TV: I was leaning towards Rhoscolyn or Bopedro, David told me I was on Mirsky. Gave me a choice when Mirsky came out.
