End of season vagaries dictate that bets are few and far between at present but I shall chance my autumn arm wit this filly:
Canoodled - 5.00 Newmarket 5/1 Ew
I first noted this girl at Haydock in August, where she ran a nice race and because all the post-race talk was about how unlucky the second, Queen Aminatu, was that day, this one may have slipped under the radar, as they say. Well, she certainly registered a massive blip on my screen and I've watched her since.
Lto she came third in the Newmarket race she'd won the year before and the time of that race confirms that it was a good one at the Cl 3 level.
Although her mark hasn't dropped for that 4th, today we see her dive down into a class 5 and that is well worth noting. She's also 1Lb lower than her last Newmarket win (Cl 3 73).
So, it's back to the watering hole , this time over a mile. Will she get it? Well, she's won over the distance on the soft before so I'm more than hopeful. The Mehmas breeding can get sprinters but those with some staying blood in the grandsire do get milers, I notice.
All things considered, win or lose this is a worthy bet, despite the falling leaves and dark mornings.
