Potential bets today at Southwell, Ffos Las, Catterick, Dundalk, Wolves, Meydan, and one or two in France. All noted on first scan.

As always, actual bets depend on prices nearer the off and a deeper analysis of other runners. Several of these will be watchers.

The list and early notes...

Thequietman 1.32 Southwell An interesting O'Meara runner.

Singoura 2.32 Gemma Tutty trained Rajasinghe. Joanna Mason up, has ridden around 5 times, each time Singoura has run a nice race except the latest around 160 days ago. Has gone well after a break before. Might be up in the 20s, we'll see. There are a half a dozen at least dangers on paper, so won't be surprised to see no show today. But one to remember for the future.

Jack Andrea 410

Glenridding 1.10 Catt

Ercall Fox 1.20 Ffos Las Noted this on his first maiden run. Has had a little break. Might well have something for Kerry Lee. Suspecting likely pretty low 3s, maybe 4s for first 4. Probably one to watch.

The Hawkstonian 1.50 Won't be a surprise to see this Pauling runner do something here.

Lucky Lugger 4.35

Only One Scobie/Moretothis 4.45 Dundalk Two Galileo Gold's. Scobie should go off high 3-figures, likely one to watch for a handicap.

Amemri 5.45 Dundalk

Blueandtangerine 5.30 Wolves Almanzor, has been disappointing. But this is weak-looking. That'll likely be reflected in the odds, unlikely to see the usual 50s upwards today.

True Test 2.40 Meydan Probably too tough after a break.

Run Boy Run 3.50 Meydan Spencer runs Two Tribes, too. But I think a case can be made for Run Boy Run edging it, at likely (maybe much) bigger odds.

Great Chieftain 5.35 Meydan

Mrs Holiday 4.48 Deauville

Joly Girl 12.43 Pau

A mid-way catch up....

Thequietman 1.32 Southwell Missed this, got caught moving furniture! Nowhere, and went off 36 SP. Another day, maybe, when DOM wants it.

**Was 20s, green by the off. But no show. Definitely another day.

Glenridding 1.10 Catt No prizes for stating the obvious, but very hard to look past Square D'Alboni on the back of his Newbury 3rd behind two hot types. Wasn't going to risk 1.61 though. Glenridding looks one that Ewan Whillans might do well with, but at only 60 the win and just 3 for 4 places, it was just a watch. ** Square D'Alboni surprisingly well beaten. A perfectly respectable run from Glenridding in around 5th, far enough behind the first two home to cause no harm to future odds in a handicap.

Ercall Fox 1.20 Ffos Las With 3+ potentially nice types higher in the market, this was a watch for Ercall at 30 the win, only 2.5 first 4, and just shy of 4 for top three. Nowhere near big enough in context of the race. ** Ercall was keen for the first 3 or 4, settled a bit in the middle part of the race. Was going on at seeming one pace in 5th up to two out with still the potential he might find something more and challenge. Indeed, I was mildly worried. Came down, didn't look a tired fall, maybe put off by the one in front at the time.

A nice run. He has something, for sure.

The Hawkstonian 1.50 **11s showing 10 mins before - made by the (false-looking) odds on favorite - this was a bet. Figured Pipe's 4 year old was a risky favorite, and the Daly horse would more likely be better over further. Couldn't see anything else to worry too much about, so 11 was crazy (and totally unexpected). A maximum bet for this type of race.

Hawky looked to have it won two out, the Pipe favorite over and out, the Daly runner in another county, and the question was how far. But the eventual 2nd came from the back, and even Pipe's Turenne somehow fought back and looked a danger. Not helped when my runner went sideways at the last. But to his credit, kept finding up the run in to just about win it.

True Test 2.40 Meydan Missed it, lost track of time. But finished a close 4th. Wouldn't have gone for it at 17-2.

Southwell 3.03 Had missed Dr Khan Junior on this morning's scan, but 5.6 here about 15 mins pre-race was screaming out 'back me', given there looked two to beat and my reading of Talis Evolvere is he's better over a mile (+ has his ups and downs). Another maximum bet at 5.6, went green before the off.

I'd like to say never in doubt, and it wasn't for 5-6 furlongs, but the fav came at him, went maybe half a length up a furlong out. My boy looked beat briefly, just kept going and fought for it, I'd say winning comfortably in the end. #ifyoucandoitatnewcastleyoucandoitanywhere

Edit** And to finish up...

Run Boy Run 3.50 Meydan Took 36 and then 29 to small enough stakes. Logically, shouldn't have the beating of Two Tribes. But Run Boy Run could have enough improvement to come, and there wasn't that much between them in one or two UK races. ** Two Tribes 2nd, Run Boy Run front rank a couple out but the rail side got away from him. May have been inconvenienced up his side of the track?? The winner and second drawn 2 and 3, Run Boy Run came out of 11. Whatever, will fight another day.

Jack Andrea 410 Southwell Jack Andrea was surprisingly big here. Took 50 the win about an hour before, and 5.4 in the 4 places market. Spotted Sheilas Well before the start, thinking Thomas Faulkner might be able to improve her. Alas, someone else already knew - had the flame symbol and mid 6s. Must have been mid-20s at least earlier. Left it. Jack Andrea green both markets at the off.

Jack Andrea couldn't make enough progress from the back, although threatening to do so at one point. Finished well, though, ultimately only a couple of lengths and a head off 4th.

Lucky Lugger 4.35 12.5 twenty mins pre-race looked fine for a medium bet interest in the overall context of this race. Slightly green by the off, courtesy of lining up front rank They went off hard for the first two with Lugger in 4th, settled down a bit by the 3rd. He was out on his feet by the second last.

Only One Scobie/Moretothis 4.45 Dundalk Wasn't expecting much from these two Galileo Golds in this maiden. Moretothis had already done me a favour getting 4th at around 18s (125-1 SP, mid 200s BF) back in December. Scobie, I considered a small just in case go at 40 four places, but common sense prevailed. As expected, Scobie nowhere and will be much more interesting in handicaps. Moretothis confirmed he has some sort of an engine, fighting on quite well to get 3rd.

Blueandtangerine 5.30 Wolves 28 about 30 mins before the race was far too tempting. A surprise, was expecting around 18 at best. Ran best race for a while, but pulled hard mid race and looked like Shane just had to let him get on with it. Couldn't sustain it, but maybe held up at the back next time will see something.

Great Chieftain 5.35 Meydan Only around 8s. Not big enough and let it go. Well beaten and no obvious excuses.

Mrs Holiday 4.48 Deauville Decided against this, but finished last anyway.

****

Win of the day : Can't split the two - Dr Khan Junior & The Hawkstonian. Both came with scares, so for both adrenaline level and the wins, they were noteworthy.

One to watch of the day : Has to be Ercall Fox.

Might be a newish sire to watch - Japan. Taifuu put away the 3-20 favorite in the 2.40 at Meydan, having already won two races in Denmark.

Hasn't had any Ireland runners, and only a few UK. But of those few, one ran 3rd in a Newmarket maiden at 22-1, one had a few runs winning one at 33-1.
