Closing line from yesterday...

I was expecting near 100 for it, but the highest available was around the 48 mark. Left it alone, but ran 2nd in a fairly big field. The winner won easily, but gratifying that this selection process got (what I would say is) a near completely left-field placer (in this case, anyway). There's a chance this will throw up a big winner one day.

Lots going on today, and not specifically with the races. Will be busy most of the day. Couldn't see anything outstanding on first scan of the afternoon meetings, so the plan is to wait till Newcastle tonight. Got a few runners noted, but may well just hold until...
8.00 Purest Time Down to a Class 4 for the first time. Wouldn't have been surprised to see 9-2, and Purest opened at 10 last night, with plenty of 11 on BF. 9s and a bit lower now with the bookies, 9. something on the Exchange. Could go lower, but will go in again if he drifts.
Several good runs over 6f, in particular the 2nd to Tuca Salamanca at 40-1 on the course last year. Finished well from the back in that race, last to nearly first in the last 2f if memory serves me right. I thought then that 7f might be best eventually, but Ian Williams has persisted at shorter distances with some good-enough runs at 6f in higher quality races than this.
If Purest can't win a Class 4, I have to seriously reconsider some of my thinking processes. Indeed, on paper, there's as much chance of him finishing out of the first 3 tonight as there is of Let It Rain finishing a long last while still standing tomorrow. That's none!!
But this wouldn't be the first time I've thought that going into a race
Old Tolstoy looks a worry, particularly on the just over 2 length 5th to Golden Mind on the course last August. Don't see much else, though ofc one or two could step up.
