Galway Festival 2019

I'm hoping that Ellison takes Top Notch tonto over again.im sure they have not been trying too hard to get his hcap mark down for one last good pay day.

Hope to be ther Galway Plate day again this year; there is a tiny bar behind the Corrib stand where we hang out between (sometimes during ) races beside the tea rooms.
Usually quiet so easy to converse.
Coney Island got no favours from handicapper but could have enough class if he is up for the cut and thrust of such a race.

I could see Tony Martin having a great week.Regarding tomorrow Innisfree looks badly underpriced at 2/5-in his only race to date he ran against a horse who went to post with his mouth wide open and raced freely -I think he should be closer to even money and will definitely be laying him.

Several races tonight were extremely rough, more akin to stock cars or dodgems than horse racing as we know it.

The track is tight and tricky to ride, and if jockeys are going to continue bumping and boring for the rest of the week accidents are inevitable. Has the prize money and prestige attached to winning there made the racing too competitive for what the track can handle?

For a couple of seconds I thought we had lost Arctic Fire. Thankfully ok (well cantered back) but could be carnage at the turn in before the week is out. The novice hurdle and the 1m4f handicap also borderline dangerous.

Unlucky Luke, really shows what a loss Smullen is to Weld. No doubt he would have won on that.

Would have been nice if he’d been a bit handier instead of dead last and having ran on better than anything through the field I ended with an “if only” feeling.

Still, I’ll settle for 3rd as while it’s difficult to tell from the camera angle at Galway it looked like he may have still had every chance if good enough.

Think the winner was a good thing (in hindsight) and while SB made up ground, it was never quick enough, and needed the horses to fall back into him. All did bar one. Never quite looked likely apart from ten strides half way up the hill. Wasn't expecting him to start fav.

Can't believe Wicklow Brave is 2/1 fav tomorrow -I would make him a significantly bigger price -7/2 maybe 4/1.I could see him getting behind early on and he is possibly a place lay.

The jockeys have been mostly good as gold ever since.

Shanning is in fine form and has a good profile for the race but, to mix a couple of metaphors, it's a lottery and you just hope the pack is dealt in your favour.

Robin De Carlow has never won at a distance below 2m4f but she's probably earned a shot at the novice chase. Hopefully, David will let her go round at her own pace and see what unfolds up the hill.

I won't be there but will be cheering them on from (behind) the sofa. Safe home to both and anything else is a bonus.
