Songsheet is off to the very prestigious Devon County Show on Thursday to show her BB's.
I am sure Talking Horses will be supporting you all the way. Jolly Good Luck!!!

Thank you!

We took the show team of three down this morning and very well-behaved they were too! It's pretty hilarious to see some people being dragged along the cattle hall floor by a stroppy bovine but not when it's you...

It's actually a relief it was pissing down, as had it been hot and sunny, Phil would have been fretting that we weren't on silaging, so that's good - we can all enjoy the Show now! The competition is very hot and we aren't expecting to do great things - we're just happy that two out of the three are home-breds and hopefully, we won't be last in every class :(

It never fails to amaze me just how accepting cattle are in general - two of ours are just yearling heifers and one of those has never been off the farm but after about twenty minutes looking quietly about her, she laid down and was cudding happily. Can't see many horses being quite so quiet!

Despite the weather, it's a lovely atmosphere and even though everyone obviously wants to win, most folk are only too keen to help you out by lending kit or looking out for your cattle while you're off eleswhere.

I'm off to Carlisle on Friday/Saturday for a BB sale (on my own !!), so won't be at Devon but if anyone does go, drop in at the cattle lines - you're welcome to get up close and personal with our Blues!

Good luck Julie, have my fingers crossed for you.

Incidentally there was the Chariots of Fire pony display team at Chatsworth the other day who had a cow pulling a cart which I thought a bit odd particularly when she tried to get it to "trot".

They can be ridden, too, Martin. Wee Lass would be well up to trundling me around, I'm sure - she's so strong she could probably take Julie and a couple of friends as well! Best o'luck, Jules, and especially with your search for more beautiful Belgian Blues.

Ah kool Kri, was a bit wary when the lady running the show told the audience that this was the only thing the pony jumping through fire had wanted to do all his life was this.

 Yeah, I bet - "Listen, you little basket, it's jumping through fire or joining those pikey ponies on their way to Belgium. What'll it be?" :(

Chorus: "Oh, yes we do!" Please note the BB's fantastic behinds and dainty hooves.

When you do get to visit Songsheet's faaarm, Dims, please could you take a commemorative picture of WEE LASS - I'd like to have one myself, as well as whatever you can manage to get BARRANTES and her filly foal to do (it mostly involves getting them to take their heads from between their knees!) - I would really like some pix. I think it's nice to give future owners a couple of shots of their new charge as a baby - the Mongans/Sheens were really surprised to receive photos of REACH THE WIND and her foal, now WORLDWIND. "You're the first breeder we know of to do that," they said, clearly amazed. I'd have thought that it would be a nice gesture by more breeders to do so. (Of course, I'm only microscopic in breeders' terms, and everything I know - 3 things - is down to Julie!)

I agree - I got given a photo pf my english setter playing with a jack russell when he was an ikkle puppy ( not much bigger than the JR!) which was a really nice gesture.

Dims has just rung me and told me that Wee Lass got a second but ...

wait for it .........

the other two won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done, Julie :) :) :)

It was great to meet Dims and her very impressive camera(s) - I am really looking forward to seeing her photos!

It was a very good day for us as new kids on the block - the herd is only really a couple of years old and the best part was that the two who won were home-breds. And one of those went on to be Reserve Female Champion to the heifer that pipped Wee Lass, so that wan't too bad... The judge spent an age trying to decide between Wee Lass and the other heifer, which wasn't surprising as they were both Tamhorns (ie bred by Mr Wyllie, Tamhorn BBs) and both by the same sire.

Because we had two heifers challenging for Best Female, I had to borrow a white showing coat and get in there - bit different to showing dogs or yearlings, I can tell you! Anyway, much to my surprise, it was the one I was showing he picked in the challenge! Hah!

Anyway, we had a lovely day and have come home tired and happy!
