Obviously we’ve no weights and no idea of the ground and jockey bookings. But see some being laid out already for this.

Lecky Watson is one id want and Hills have pushed him out to 50s. Willie said beginning of the year this is his target.

Cant see the 50s being around much longer

Weights launch is usually round valentine's Day time think last year was abit later. Though for past two years what with the changes to the Grand National weight hasn't really hindered the higher top rated horses mainly finishing in top places

“As of late November 2025, Paul Nicholls' 2024 Coral Gold Cup winner Kandoo Kid is likely to miss the entire 2025-26 season to recover from a bruising fall in the Grand National. While he is doing fine, the decision to give the nine-year-old time off is aimed at ensuring a full recovery following the incident. “

Anyone know what's happened to Kandoo Kid? Is he out for the season?

I have a vague recollection of Nicholls saying he was not going to run him this season. He's not injured Nicholls seemed to think he needed a season off with a view of returning with the Aim of the 2027 National.

Barjon beat me to it. Imagine not being able to beat an 80 year old for pace.

I reckon Mullins has sussed that a Gold Cup contender can win a National if it can get in off 10lbs below its level.

Nick Rockett won off 163, currently 169, true level probably around 174/175.
I Am Maximus won off 159 then second off 168, true level also probably around 174/175.

So, could the answer be a Mullins horse currently rated around 160-163 but in reality a Gold Cup contender?

It's one of the reasons I backed Quai De Bourbon (150, 33/1 & 40/1). I think it's on the periphery of Gold Cup class. Unfortunately it's about as good a jumper as me but I have suspected all season they're targeting Aintree.

I'm also on Grangeclare West (164, 40/1) and in a double with KG winner TJM (16/1) so that would be nice. He was an excellent third last year off 163, staying on well after being hampered at Valentines on the second circuit and making a hash of the last. He could get in a few pounds better off with Nick Rockett but the latter might have the more improvement.

When you see how many Mullins had in today's nig race, you have to think most of them will get an entry and he can effectively manipulate the race to his own ends.

I like Minella cocooner but I will have to have another look cos I've forgot why I like it.
50/1

He could have announced that before I put him in my Ten to Follow...

Quai De Bourbon is a good horse, I like him a lot. Just seems a bit soft

I'm not sure something that made as many mistakes and consistently lost as much ground as he did in the IGN but was still disputing the lead at the last can be described as soft. A softie would have given up the ghost by halfway.

He's just not a great jumper but I'd be disappointed if they haven't been working on his jumping at home.

After that IGN run I was sorely tempted to back him for the Gold Cup but soon sobered up.
