Great Beers, Lagers, Spirits!!

I drink very little white wine, usually Sancerre.

A lot of red, including:

A good bourgogne is very hard to beat.

A lot of Beaujolais wines, such as Morgon (oh yes), Brouilly (in summer, chilled), Julienas. Beaujolais nouveau is fun but obviously not a great wine.

Saint Emilion, Haut-Medoc and Saint Julien in terms of Bordeaux's.

I had a red when in Sancerre and quite nice.

I like Murphy's and Guinness a lot but only in Ireland. Bars and pubs in England (or London) don't understand how to look after it, not to mind pour it.

Lagers - Leffe, by a distance. Erdinger great too. Peroni in bottles.

Majestic for wine, and regular supermarkets for pretty-much everything else.

Actually I am floundering with their list.

The white burgundys are an arm and leg. I used to pay a bit for a Vincent giradin bottle which was wonderful but they don't stock it now

This is a good Loire at a price

Can't go far wrong with majestic though.

This is at waitrose and majestic and was very burgundy in style. Quite superb

Pouilly Fumé area is 2km from Sancerre, very close. Very nice. If you drove and drink a bit during the year, it'd pay a decent part of your trip.

How about this for drinking.

A mate of mine with what I reckon is a zinc stomach started a day at Cheltenham with a bottle of 20/20 (don't ask...it's disgusting) followed by knocking back all afternoon a half bottle of neat gin watched down by endless pints of strongbow

The next day he reckoned he could have sh#t through the eye of a needle

Is there a better combination than a Great Steak with a delicious Red?

Please let me know as I'm struggling to find one.

A large dish of sour grapes with plenty of Reds always goes down well. :D

Moving on:
Lager - Kronenbourg
Beer - Wainwright or Landlord
Spirit - Vodka/tonic
Wine - depends on mood and food

Don't be a p.rick all the time Archie, you're better than that ;)

Anti Liverpool comments on a thread about food and drink really is desperate old chap.

Don't be paranoid, Harry. There are Reds that are more significant than Liverpool to a Mancunian. Dave G will confirm that I'm perfectly reasonable with reasonable Liverpudlians. Having a stepson who's an Evertonian ensures I give out a fair amount of stick to the toffee apples as well. I'd also suggest that anyone who thinks a 'let's all laugh at Celtic' thread is witty gives up the right to be precious about his own club.

As it happens, I think I'd rather have garlic chilli chicken and a gewurtzraminer than steak and a big red but I wouldn't want it every day.
