Hamsters

My hamster is called Pete :D He's about six months old now and built like a tank! He's quite a nervous little chap but he's beginning to enjoy cuddles. He's a very angry little man and likes to destroy as much of his house as possible. His current project is the destruction of a fleecy bed. He has two padlocks on the door to his house because he soon learnt that if he pushed against the door with the full force of his vast weight it'd open. So I put one padlock on. Then the little shit worked out that if he pushed that far enough to one side he could squeeze through the other side hence the second padlock

Here is Pete on the day he arrived:

His predecesor was named Rupert. He was by far the best hamster I've ever had. Roo had an amazing personality. Can hamsters be charismatic? Anyway here he is on Christmas Eve 2004:

I had loads of hamsters as a kid and more recently I bought one for the children about five years ago. They never paid it much attention, Elizabeth became my little chum and she rekindled my love for hamsters.

Our rodent collection is about to expand. We're adoping four baby rats just after Christmas. Daisy is hoping to clicker train them! They should be just as much fun as hamsters.

Of course hamsters have personality. I recently went away for 2 nights and when I came back Clark came to the door of his cage, looked at me and then turned his bak in a huff and wouldnt come out of his house.

He has such a wide range of expressions too

From the experience I've had of hamsters (my brother had a couple and I know a few people who've had them) the thing they tend to do best is dying, suddenly!

That's exactly what happened to mine.

Maybe I shouldn't have called him stanleykubrick.

Brilliant!
Hamsters do have a wide range of expressions, but you'd only know that if you were lucky enough to own one. You can see how nervous Pete looks on his first day here and Rupert knows damn well how handsome he is in his photo  He loved posing for the camera.

Hamsters are cool, so are gerbils, rats, mice, but the kings and queens of cool, in fact they invented the word, BIRDS :D :D B)

God, it's soooo unfair......

My husband got fed up with a few horses and some cattle and three dogs before pissing off... and at least the equines and bovines lived outside .....

There's Mr GG, with grizzilions of cats, dogs, kids, rodents and Griffin to put up with and the poor bastard's still there!!!!

I'm starting to get why she calls him 'Grumpy' .... B)

  Bless his socks, he hates most of the animals really. He's never liked cats but I already had four or five and was fostering for Cats Protection when he moved in so he had little choice over the matter. Over the years a few fosters ended up staying and the most cats we ever had was ten. Even I had to admit that was too many but gradually it's gone down to eight. I've got two foster kittens at the moment who I am desperate to find a home for. They're about 13 weeks old now and are becoming part of the furniture. Molly loves them both to bits and has written a letter to Father Christmas asking if they can stay. But that means bumping back up to ten, being more work for me and pissing off Mr GG who is determined to see the back of them. Ooooooo decisions decisions..................

He enjoyed the six mice we used to have several years ago so I'm hoping he'll like the rats too. So far he's not enjoying the cost of preparing for their arrival, £60 for the cage, £40 so far on accessories for aforementioned cage, £30 to adopt the rats and I'm sure Daisys not finished spending his money yet

Mr GG is remarkably tolerant. However if I say that the kittens can stay I fear it may tip him over the edge. If I suddenly disappear, I suspect my body will have been fed to the dogs
